Do I need oil drippers 70 Ram Air 111
My engine builder did not install my oil drippers because he used polylocks. My car is going to be more of a show car and not raced but i might get on it occasionally on the street. I know the factory put them on for a reason, am I ok without them for light duty use? thanks

You’ll be fine without them, it’s nice to have I’m sure but I run all mine without them. Never had any rocker stud, spring or rocker arm issues at all.
Of course you might want them to be more correct for shows that’s a different issue .

The poly locks will serve the same purpose as the drippers. They will catch oil coming from the rocker arm oil hole and "drip it" on the rocker ball.

Chevys never had drippers.

I seem to recall my ‘70 SS El Camino had them; built into the valve covers like later Pontiacs.

Original 1970 BBC valve covers have drippers.

I guess I should have said small block Chevys. I never took many big blocks apart. I’m not as familiar with them as small blocks.

Big block's canted valves are probably the reason for the drippers.

I have polylocks and drippers.
Spotts sells a thicker valve cover gasket. 5/16 i think. cork. i found them on ebay. |

Some small block Chevys had them too. In fact speaking of 69 Z28's in particular with those finned aluminum covers, they originally never had drippers until very late in production around Sept of 69. From there on drippers were used in the same covers throughout LT-1 production and on into the L82 years.
These days all the reproduction finned covers come with drippers. The non drippers are not reproduced making them a desirable item and fairly expensive to the correct style restoration on an early 69 Z. As far as Pontiacs go, I remove those things on our builds, never use them and haven't found a need to and they just seem to get in the way. |

I have used the RA-IV oil drippers with a stud girdle for over 20 years.

I have found the drippers mounted on head bolts keeps oil away from valve cover thru the breather.
Instead of polylocks i use Chevy rocker nuts for adjustment, been good for 25+ years. |
