1100903 Alternator Stamp
Anyone ever see 2 different number '1' fonts in the date stamp? This alternator came on a '72 YC 455 Dan & I bought a couple months ago.
Is this Firebird only, or was this on other models in 1970? Dennis Last edited by SD455DJ; 07-12-2021 at 12:35 PM. Reason: added text |

12 might be just missing the "V".
I show the -015 used on just about everything in 74 with AC and HBL.(heated back light). Must have both. |

different fonts were not uncommon. It happened a lot more often than people think.

Likely more than one stamping location on assembly line using parts partially stamped for their assembly.

So the second (and different font) '1' may not be a part of the date, so a 9M1 (Dec. 1, 1969) date stamp. The date isn't critical to me, I was just more curious as to why the different fonts (maybe they broke one of the '1' stamps and substituted a different font to keep the line rolling?), or if it had a different meaning.
Thanks everyone for the insight on the alternator. Dennis |

No, that would be 9M11. Unlike men all stamps are not created equal. If it was stamped all at one time there are 5 ones in the stamp. If only one line is stamped at atime then there are still 3 ones. They would have needed at least 3 sets of stamps to do that alternator. I would think the stamps would wear out, get lost or damaged so replacements would not always be the same.

Here is the rear case of out 1100903 9M11 55A alternator compared to the one from Chris Eagle that he recently sold. They look the same to me...
Matt M., I can't respond to your PM...says your Inbox is full. You can reach me at dennis.jensen@c2ae.com which is easier than PM'ing for me. Dennis |
