Just want to post this in the 64-65 section. I contacted Scott Tiemann and ordered the "Dash Dial Blue" lacquer paint that he had specially formulated. He also informed me that I called just in time as PPG was ending the sale of lacquer in Michigan. He told me the minimum mix is 1 pint. This will make 4 spray cans. So I didn't want to waste any of the pint, I bought all 4 cans. I plan on using one. Another board member plans on buying 1 from me. That leaves 2 left. If anyone is interested, please PM me.

That picture of your dash and the radio is the exact blue I am looking for for the interior of mine. You don’t happen to have a paint code or know where I can find it do you

Update: 2 Forum members who each bought a can of the paint said it doesn't "look right". Back to the drawing board.

Pontiac Dash Color.
I have had to use several different brands of paint therefor mix formulas over the years. If I recall the mixture above should yield the color shown below. That or very close to it. If it does or does not, please post the results.
If not I will search thru my old files and folders, perhaps I have another. Some of the mixes from years past I had mixed by eye and some of the resulting paint had to be ever so slightly "tinted to match" at the body shop's. (Paint store.) That was a long time ago. Unfortunately that mix was never written down. It doesn't matter anyway. That store changed paint suppliers shortly afterwards and when I went back to get some more, the guy that mixed it for me was no longer there.

Very important: the color primer you set that paint on top of will affect the look of the color.
I like to use light grey or medium grey or bare steel. Just FYI. Dark grey or red oxide primers under that color are likely to give you an undesirable result. I can not say what that color will look like if sprayed directly over top of chrome. I think GM did but they had experts in all kinds of stuff and I am sure the mix they used even had some kind of a binder in it to be able to put the color directly on top of bright chrome without any issues. Personally I would use a light coat of "etch" primer just to give the color some extra grip. A nice primer I have had good results with in the past is sold by TP Tools in Canfield Ohio. www.tptools.com Their part # 5915 Quick Etch = one 12.5 oz. spray can. It comes in a light shade of zinc chromate green; as a happy accident this color is a very good base-tone under the green/ blue/ gray color everybody is looking to match.

Pete,
Thank you so much for the code. this has been very expensive and frustrating to this point trying to find something close to match original parts |
