64 exhaust manfold bolt locks and installation
I'm going to install my exhaust manifolds this weekend. I have the tin gaskets and bought a new bolt set with the locks. Should I put a thin layer of high temp RTV on the manifolds and block or not use anything? Would anybody know the torque for the bolts? Also figured out the locking tabs go on the outside holes but the new ones are flat, how the heck do you bend them or do I just chuck them and not use them? I'm not as concerned about originality on this as not having issues.
Thanks for all the help |

Guess I will start. Locks go on the second bolt from each end. You my need to bend one tang at 90 deg. then when you put them on, after tightening the bolts, bend another tang 90 deg. to the flat of the bolt head. 3/8 bolts torque to 25 to 40 lbs., I believe. And the metal gaskets are great, as long as the surfaces are clean and flat.
Hope this helps. Others jump right in!!!!! "Bill"! |

Bill Thank you for the reply but what about the third and longer tab what happens with that?

You only need two tabs bent. One away from the bolt head to keep the lock from turning if the bolt does try to loosen. The other to lock the bolt against the hex head flat. The lone larger tab is bent away from the bolt head so it will lock into the manifold..

Thank you everyone, I was able to get it, I used a little high temp RTV around the ports, hopefully it wont hurt anything.
