Default Upgrades - seats, seat belts, harness, gauges, H-pipe

Just got the car back after several upgrades. Replaced my melted engine harness. Also upgraded to a new dash harness, Dakota Digital gauges, TMI seats, Morris seat belts and finally a Pypes H-pipe (previously had X-pipe).

The Dakota Digital gauges are amazing. Very happy with that. The TMI seats are also an incredible improvement. I think I got a pretty good color match. Very comfortable. Great bolsters. The Morris seat belts are also very nice. Good color match too (I think). So much better to have a retractable shoulder belt so I can actually lean forward. At idle, I'm not sure the H-pipe changes the tone of the exhaust much but it seems deeper and louder at higher RPM under load.

Overall I'm happy with everything.

Excellent execution as far as the safety stuff goes.

I did a similar thing with the integral head rests, bolster seats, and 3 point seat belts.
64 GTOs with no locks on the seat backs was one of Pontiacs royal screw-ups for
safety on a quick car, imo. But all 64/65 cars fit that description.

Seats & belts look great. I have a set of Morris retractable belts for my '66 that I'm eager to install.

Jhien,

Very nice with the seats and seat belts. Gauges are awesome, too!

When you pointed out to me the H-pipe produced by Pypes, I wondered how much of a difference there would be. I say that knowing the H-pipe I have is longer than the one you have. Mine has more space between the pipes. The exhaust pipes are farther apart which I believe to be the difference in sound I think you were expecting to hear. My system was a flowmaster American Thunder series.

I'm waiting on a pair of Morris 3 pt belts for my Firebird. Looking forward to putting them in.

The Morris belts really are nice. The retractability that includes the shoulder portion is really great for comfort and convenience. I can now reach my fresh air vent controls without having to unbuckle. Also the extension that come off the upper mount places the shoulder portion at the proper height so it is not up on your neck like the original shoulder belt. Better for comfort and safety. They are a little sensitive to locking up if you try to pull them out too fast when putting them on. Once you have them on, then you can lean forward at will.

Nice!

My 70 bird was an original atoll blue with that bright blue interior, and always thought that looked good. Car was painted, white, before I got it though, so it looked almost exactly like yours. Almost being yours doesn’t have the lovely cracks and rust that mine did.

Those Morris belts look nice, spendy, but nice. And…they offer 3 points for A body ragtops…which I am looking for.

Yeah, I remember looking at yours online and it's definitely a longer H pipe. I was under the car today and I got a pic of it. It's really so short it's almost an X-pipe!

Beautiful car. I also like what you've done on upgrades. Very nice. Can you share more info on the seats. Covers, which models.. must be leather for the price. Thanks

Thanks. The seats are TMI Pro Series Low Back Sport with the mini headrests.

I agree, they're pricey (and not even leather). But they are a really well made seat and the real kicker for me was the color selection. If you have a black interior you can find nice seats for way less.

They had 35 different shades of blue to choose from!! That was awesome. Obviously you need to get samples because in person, many of them look nothing like they do on your computer screen.

Curious...what was required to bolt up the seats correctly?

They sell a mounting bracket for them. They have it listed for a Camaro and it fit perfect without any mods. Bolted right up and the height was perfect.

Jhein,

Do you think there would be a problem with fitment if a console were present?

Jim

Good question. I don't think so. I can take a measurement between the seats and a picture.
