Ahhh, that''s the pits. Sorry to hear of this. Some thoughts on wiping out the thrust bearing. Have a friend that this happened to also. They found the torque convertor snout binding in the crank. Things where out of round and the binding prevented the flexplate from doing it's job. Another thing to check if Automatic to check line pressure in cooler lines. My understanding is higher than 60 pounds is of concern. There is a mod done to the th400 pump to reduce pressure into the convertor. It's in Cliff's book. Another sometimes over looked is the spacing of the converter against the flexplate. ( 1/8"-3/16" ) I also read about billet flex plates being to stiff. This scares the crap out of me as I have a new convertor to try. I still haven't installed it cause everything is working fine at Present.

Do you do the P Dude trick to the thrust ?
How much space do you have between converter and flex plate ?
Converter ballooning ?
What was your crank end play ? My 461 is kind of tight .0045-.005.

This happened to me once. It turned out one line from the trans cooler got kinked when i put the motor in . Pulled and fixed the motor and line . Been fine ever since .. Hopefully its something like that for you . It sucks but an easy fix. Good luck man . Sorry to hear this..

Had about 3/16 clearance between flexplate and converter. .007 thrust clearance. Trans was completely checked out and is all good now. Very frustrating but I have some ideas to get pressurized oil to the thrust and converter will be swapped out.

Define "completely checked out". WHAT was "checked out"?

WHAT is the pressure in the trans cooler circuit?

If it's "all good now", what was wrong with it before?

It's 50psi. All the lines and cooler was replaced after 1st thrust bearing issue.
Converter is a higher end 10" from Coan.

Is there any way you can post up a few pics of front and back of that converter. I bought one from them and had to send it back to change on side as it was hitting flex plate.

With a jewlers file you can create a more direct pressurized oil path by putting a small bevel at the bearing parting line face from the oil groove towards the thrust face, then at the thrust face you can use the same type of file to put small grooves there to provide a path for the oil to exit the bearing in a manner that will introduce the oil at the critical spots

That will be done and more.
