This guy obviously has no respect for the American flag or he is just plain ignorant. He needs to read the Flag Code!

According to a link posted under that photo, it didn't have anything to do with no being able to fly the flag. This is apparently what happened, but I haven't found a link to the actual story so who knows what the actual facts are:

The Historical Society has many rules in Cambridge, Maryland as to how an owner can do construction AND repairs. Story goes that a contractor was trying to do some repairs on his property and the Historical Society would not let him do it. Contractor finds out that they can not object to paint, so to get back at them for not letting him do repairs, he paints one of his properties black and the other as an American Flag. I think it's pretty much a toss-up between HOAs and historical societies as to which contains the great number of national socialists.

In Delaware we have the City of old New Castle which is very historic and they are really strict about what colors you can paint your house because they are all pretty historic and old. One guy painted his entire house the darkest purple couple of years ago . Its still that purple til this day.

Here in Orange, CA we have a historical area. A woman owns a house that was her father's, and before that was owned by her grandfather.

Sometime while the grandfather owned it, the front porch and facade was heavilly damaged by a tree. Being a carpenter, he rebuilt it, but removed part of the front porch. When the father owned it, the neighborhood was made as part of the historical area.

The daughter found some pictures of the house before it was damaged and had the facade and porch rebuilt exactly as it was from new construction.

She is now being sued for changing the house.

When I was in law school we read some cases on homeowners associations and what they can and cannot do.

Don't remember all the details, but for example, they can't prevent blood relatives from living in the same house, for example, grandmother and grandchild - even if the mother is a crack head and everyone is on welfare.

I also believe there are some cases about the flag or at least freedom of speech - for example, I don't think they could prevent flying the flag on July 4th, or maybe even campaign signs.

They can however, prevent you from having a cat.

Had a former friend that had several GTO's and often on Saturday we would gather at his place and sometimes do work on one of the members cars. Then one day the Home owners association served him with papers. They claimed he was running a repair shop out of his home! They also had decided that you could only have one car sitting in the driveway at any time! Well to say it best he told them to Fk off and he sold his house to some real deadbeats and moved to an area without any home owners association.

Had a distant neighbor once that was somewhat messy in his home's outside upkeep. The city asked him to clean it up and he did. Part of the clean-up was a candy striper paint job. I hated it for the look and loved it for the attitude.
