If so, here's some large scale RC aircraft. Props and jets.

Thumbs up

Cool video and aircraft. Brings back a lot of memories!

Aviation related My claims to fame: Skydiving in Rhinebeck, NY where they had two fully operational Fokker Tri-Planes, worked with Chuck Yeager’s’ sister in law Sandra Yeager (Married to Chuck’s brother Hal) Chuck Yeager Pilot of the X-1, the right stuff movie, etc,; in Northern Idaho had an awesome ride on a restored 1965 Vintage Fixed Wing Glider ride @ over 4,000 feet. (Looked just like the yellow and red glider in the video) from a now closed Aviation Museum and amusement park Silverwood(?) they also had one of the flying cars on display, Lived and worked @SDI test range in S. Central Pacific where F-111, C5A, C-141 Starlifters, C-130’s, P-3’s, Experimentals etc. were a daily presence…as well as the WWII wreckage to dive off of and view first hand in the surrounding jungles. Was always my honor to meet the many Purple Heart Veterans and Aviators who flew in and out of the Kwajalien Atoll.

RC Related: I’ve been to Bomber Field in Monaville, TX quite a few times over the years. http://www.bomberfieldusa.com/ardguest.htm On one occasion one of the RC Club members flew in with his young son and landed a full scale BussBee(?) full scale kit plane they had just finished building.

Here are some Monaville RC videos you might like

That's cool Alvin. Rhinebeck is one place I never got to go to and always wanted to see. We were supposed to go back in the 70s to see the biplane show but never made it. Always said I'd get there someday, but haven't be able to so far.

Yeah. Pretty serious untill about 10-12 years ago. Life got in the way. You can see the large scale FW-190 D9 fairly clearly hanging from the ceiling. Next to it is a medium A-10. You can't see the large scale P-51 and 3 sport planes on down the wall. I've been thinking about getting back in but electric this time. Just gotta find the time and a good source for materials.

I've been flying RC since 1978 and I can honestly say I can't remember ever seeing that many bad landings in one place!

What is the fuel used w the ducted-fan RC jets? They seem to fly quite a long time w such a small size of onboard fuel...compressed fuel cylinders, or?

Also saw something in Hemmings about NASA's 1950's supersonic jet that looked very Concorde like...

The old school ducted fan is driven by a 2 stroke engine and can suck down 3-4 ounces of fuel per minute. They use a blend of nitro methane, methanol and oil.

The new generation of jets use turbine engines that burn kerosene and can consume anywhere from 4 ounces per minute for the small engines and up to 15 or more per minute for larger engines.

Thxs for that info toddmoll!

BTW: here is a link to one of the 1:1 scale of what we had in Kwaj, Tom Clancy wrote about this as one of our “..stealth over the horizon radar capable aircraft..” IIRC: It was one of 3 in the world; aka: The Guppy; and we built a special hanger for it on Kwaj. http://ent.arp.harvard.edu/info/miss...g/dscn0252.jpg

My intent here is to shine the light on those that have come before us and sacrificed so much for our freedom. I have met many that now are into the RC recreations of the aircraft that they flew/supported/maintained during various U.S.A. wars.

Props to all of our brave men & women!

I don't fly, but I have 4 turbine engines. I have 2- 12lb, 1- 30lb & 1- 80lb thrust engine. I just like building them. I still have to build the 30 & 80lb engines. Here is a link to a short video of my 12lb thrust engine running on a test bench.

I was into it very heavily for 15 years...Quit about 5 years ago to restore 'a car'.
Still got all my stuff though. Half of my basement is R/C planes, motors, plans, kits, etc. etc.

Goatman-68, what was the max revs? That is one cool little jet engine. BTW.... you ever think of doing a flying picnic table. LOL

Max rev's are 160,000 & idle is 60,000.
The first time I ran that engine I didn't have it clamped down since the stand I built is out of 1/2" thick aluminum and weighs a fair amount. well, when I took it up to full thrust it literally took off accross the table and I just caught it before it went over the edge. I didn't think it would move the stand. The energy this little thing generates is incredible. I can't wait to get the 80lb engine together........

For their weight and scale all of these are overpowered. I have helped my brother in law by just holding and letting them go about 3 feet off the ground as a "take off"
Most landings look hideous. Buy I like watching

That jato rocket jet sized turbine engine got me thinking that might be perfect to motorize my glider hanging around in the garage. Not sure where I’d mount the RC servos & controls though.

Side note: Don’t you love it when Kerosene aka: MOGAS is identified as a ‘exotic jet fuel'? lol.

I have a local airport that gives me Jet-A, 5 gal. at a time, it is what they have to drain off of their tanks every day to be sure there is no water in fuel.

Maybe this one would be for sale but hope your glider fabric is flame proof.
