I came up with the pressurized tank for the OHC-6.
Starting one with a dry cam(after long term storage)will wipe it out.
If you have ever diddled with a factory AC OHC-6 youll know why I avoid the distributor.

The air-cooled VW guys use that method as well, there’s no way to externally drive the oil pump on them because it’s driven directly off the front of the camshaft.

If you spend a lot of time turning the motor to degree a cam, check V-P clearance most of the lube is going to be gone. Heck just doing that with the valley pan off most is off the cam lobes you can see!

The Vega, and the GM LS motors, some Iron Dukes, some Buick V6 (and others) drive the oil pump from the front of the crankshaft.

Melling sells a pressurizable oil tank and fitting kit for filling the oil galleries on that style of oiling system.

The Melling unit works well. We have a couple of them at the school. Virtually all gas engines designed and built in the last 30 years have crankshaft driven oil pumps. It makes sense without the need for a distributor. Many 4-cylinders, run the oil pump with a tiny chain from the crankshaft to a balance shaft assembly with the oil pump inside.

I just gotta ask why you would spend at least $200 more for a tank.
For mine the fitting is about $3 and tank is $16.

Just went to put the Moroso 62200 in my cart during my order and it had a warning that it only primes the pump, but won't pump oil up through the upper galley and motor.

Thought that was strange and didn't make sense, so I didn't order it.

I saw that, too, but the reviewer was working with a Chevy engine. I'm not sure if that matters, but regardless, when I used it I had no trouble getting oil up top to the entire valvetrain. For all we know, the person who wrote that review was a bonehead spinning the pump backwards.

It's the same tool sold by Butler, or at least the same exact design if not the actual identical product. Works good.

The distributor body on a Chevy engine actually becomes part of the oil gallery so any priming tool would have to mimic the shape of a Chevy distributor body.

Not the case with a Pontiac.
