Default My 73 T/A's Journey from 1973 to now

Originally bought from Taber Pontiac in Atlanta, GA. The car was inspected in July 2, 1973. It was registered by owner living in Clarkston GA in 1976 (I have the registration). Not sure if he was the original owner. Not sure how many owners it went through after this point.

It did not make it very far from it's original sales point (330 mi) when I bought it in 2007 from Greensboro, NC.

I am doing full restoration and started in 2008. Just completed painting the underbody. It has been slow going to this point but picking up speed.

Some pics from the underside after cleaning and before cleaning. Thought things looked good no evidence of rust.

Then I opened the trunk up and pulled the carpet back to my horror. Ouch!

Found some more carnage while stripping the car.Looks like the car was hit or hit something on the right side in earlier life. Looks like a right rear quarter replacement. The right rear quarter behind the wheel also needs replacing.

Started on the left rear quarter, cutting out the rust behind the rear wheel but decided I would repair the window channel first

I had to take alot of time with a straight edge, a measure tape and a sharpie to decide where the body line was the same and where it changed. It was not far from the window/trunk ledge/channel. About 1 1/2"-2". The window and trunk channel are the same on the 70-73 camaro as they are on the firebird. The rear tail is slightly different where it transitions into the tail light.

I thought i remember hearing about that car (or car like it) back in the 80's. A friend of mine told me about a T/A that was in Atlanta off of Moores mill rd. Here is a pic of the original Indian that was on the top of Tabers building,it is now at a Cobb Co high school.

That's pretty cool. Would be neat to have that staue now. My hope is to get some sort of memorobilia from the Taber dealership someday.
So how was the car described do you remember? just curious when the restore was done ie) the fender flares lol. The 80's sound about right for those disco flares lol

More trunk, anyone who has done a trunk knows how labour intensive this can be.
I had to fabricate the outer rear portions as well as the rear 1/2-3/4" peice that has the lip as the repro falls short here. It would have been quicker to go with the full trunk pan but 3X more expensive.
My back is still sore from this job and just like these pics it seemed like it would never end lol.
