Default More bumper questions

I have a 73 sprint which looks like a 74 and I really dont like the bumpers. The rubber strips are missing and I dont like the way they sit out from the car . I have read a post about modding the brackets to move them into closer to the car and I like that idea. I would really like to use all chrome bumpers from an earlier year Nova if I could make them fit. Anyone done this yet?

The Nova front bumper is different and is hard to make fit. I've a 74 Apollo and simlpy removed all the brakets and re-enforcement metal behind the bumpers, and made up some brakets that moved the bumper in as far as the rubber spacer would allow--at least 3 inches. It would look a bit cleaner if you could narrow the bumper to have the ends closer to the body, but that would require a lot of work. A 71 to early 73 Ventura bumper has not shock absorbers or heavy metal behind it, thus an easy mod. A 73 Omega has the same bumper as the Ventura. (front only) The rear bumper could be replaced with one from an earlire Nova/ ventura, but changes to the gas filler neck and area may need to be made. There is an earlier post on this site, just go back and search a bit. Ben.

I have also done this on my '74 Chevelle.

I did it in two phases: many years ago I cut the shocks apart and reused the shock tubes, pulling the bumpers closer to the body by one inch. (I also cut away all of the bumper inner support structure, leaving only enough to hold the bumper on).

Since that time I have gone back and installed fiberglass bumpers. I used 1/4 x 2" aluminum straps to fabricate bumper brackets and that is what is in place now.

Default Rubber strips

I have received many requests for my set of bumper strips. Unfortunately I only have 1 spare set. The person who sent me the first PM will get them, unless something comes up.

I'm looking for a front bumper impact strip for a '74 GTO/Ventura. Your post is several yrs old, but thought I'd ask.

Thanks!

Where did you get the fiberglas bumper for your car. I was thinking I could use one for the chevell on my 73 GTO & make the proper cut outs that are in the 73 GTO bumper as the chevell bumper has very similar shapes. Rex.?????

US Body Source in Florida. http://www.usbody.com/

The quality is not great but they have pieces for cars that are not as popular, and it appears they would make anything you want (if you have a steel part for a core).

I have the bumpers, and two hoods from them (one flat bolt on, and a cowl lift off).

A little confused by the response, but will check the site too. If you do have the 74 front bumper impact strip, I'd certainly be interested.

I can't address the front bumper rub strip question.
