Default 68 in paint

Thought I'd share a few pictures of the paint progress on my 31k Cameo Ivory LeMans. Got the loose parts painted last fall before it got too cold and we headed south. Got back this spring and had to get the body in primer, then paint. I'm pretty happy how it turned out. I've got all the parts/body cut and compounded. I need to do the 3M machine glaze and swirl remover yet, but it's too damned hot in the shop! I'll update pictures once I get parts hung back on it. I know there's a couple other 68 guys getting close to paint, maybe this will push you!

Oh and before I get flamed, I know you couldn't get the stock wheels painted Cameo, but I like it with the dog dishes I have on it, so I painted them that.

Jeff

Other pix. Check out the condition of the firewall after a scotchbrite and simple green. You can see where the factory sprayed the burgundy for the metal dash top over the black

Very cool & very original looking. That's aways a great point to be at. Lots of satisfaction when you can start putting things back together!

Congrats, It's looking fantastic!

I love it, to me they give it a stocker or shine runner look, may even leave the caps off, never know, lets see.

Here is the car from 3 years ago with the dog dishes. Also the 80's bad, wrong white, Maaco paint job on it that my cousin (original owner) had done. I tried to talk her out of it, but she was cheap! At least she left the car to me when she passed!

Let'em break out a torch, It's your car, your money, your preference, the white letter tires really add some pop!

That was very nice of her to leave it in your trust, seems to be in good care, good luck with future progress.

Best interior color ever on a Cameo car IMO. Very nice....and actually, that Maaco job looked pretty good to begin with!

Thanks Greg. I agree, but I'm partial! Those TA's on there are getting really old. Despite there only being maybe 1500 miles on them, I probably should replace them. I think some redline radials would really set the car off, but man, they are SPENDY!

The Maaco job wasn't bad, just not the right shade compared to Cameo. Plus they did a crappy job of masking, a lot of paint on weatherstripping, etc. The rust in the fender heels was my drive to tear it down and repaint it.

The LeMans in Cameo Ivory is going to look spectacular. I'm so partial to the Vinyl top for low-glare looks.

Yeah, redlines would be sharp. I could also picture it with some Rally Ones. Black centers of course.
You may remember a Black '69 LeMans done by a member a few years ago with the redline appliques. It looked sharp and he gave them good reviews. I can't recall his user name right now (J.C. You?) and I also think he did it as a 'Jury' tribute.
I was considering getting some for my car but I'm just not that sure about the tires I'm running. I'd hate to waste those red lines

I do recall someone running those appliques. I'll have to try and find that thread. That'd be way cheaper than $200+ per tire!

Looking good! IMO redlines are a requirement with that red interior.

Dang it, I know, but I don't need any more excuses for spending money! I'm half contemplating selling the car. It deserves to be with someone who will actually drive it more than I have the last 20 years.

where's the side shots of the car with the glowing red interior showing through?! That color combo's the cars best feature!

that's more like it! now, just drop $500 on an NOS set of factory red mats and it's complete!

the repaint on the rugs looks great too. experiment on the back side of the floor mats. the paint on the aqua I did on the 67's ,mats has held up just fine so far.

Ooops...one too many Bud Lites yesterday I guess. I said 'Jury' clone and I meant 'E.T.' clone. I'm sure I can find the thread with the redlines.

Found the thread and here's a pic with the 'stickered' tires- https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...hlight=redline

Thanks Greg, that was the one! Tredwear.com for those interested. $119.95 for the set of redlines. Now to decide if I'm replacing the tires and with what.
