Default 1968 GTO Air Cleaner, Norwalk, $100

Had in my loft for years. Pretty sure this is correct for a 68. In nice shape, but some Einstein in the past drilled holes in the base(cannot see once installed). Lid will need replated. Can deliver to Norwalk. $100.

I’ve got a 68 factory intake. That’s about it.

I wonder what the person who drilled the holes in the base was trying to accomplish.

Prolly added 200 hp... I’ve had this 20 years and never noticed the holes until I pulled the air cleaner out. Real kick in the nuts lol.

To get more air without flipping the air cleaner lid, that isn't all that unusual to see back in the day, I've seen it before. It was probably was in one of the car mags on "Hop up tips for your street car", they really did print stuff like that back then.

Looks like a '68, but with the lack of small die stamped ribs across the top of the snorkel, as well as the ink stamped date, looking at an early '69 Firebird 400/'69 370-390 horse GP aircleaner base.

How does this ink stamp date break down?
"168" - Julian day of year?
"8" - '68 model year?
"2" - ?

Thanks OPH
