70 GM tech bulletins firebird/TA
I have a complete 70 tech bulletins book from a zone office. Alot of the info is about the 70 bird since it was new. If you all would like I will post here the info that is relitive to this fourm. Alot of items I have never knew about.
First up. it talks about trim rings but read a little more into the wheel/tire sizes. Once again proving what is correct and what was orignal. Last edited by uforacing; 10-21-2005 at 10:09 PM. |

Wow... that explains why my friend Ray's car (he bought a T/A new in 1970) had no bird on the nose!

On to the gas tank. This one must have caused a few double takes for the guys that dropped there tanks and said. "WTF is this?"

My original gas tank had the underlayment that is under the carpet installed on top. That tar type paper after heating & cooling a bunch just broke apart or turned to syrup, for lake of better words. Maybe that was a dealer fix? And just to say it, there was a build sheet there as I remember, maybe they put it back after installing the underlayment? I'm confused, which is not uncommon, but on another post I've seen people say there was no build sheet on their' gas tank, and those were also Norwood cars like mine...

Great info uforacing. I have owned my 70 T/A for 18 years and I am still learning about it. Guess mine didn't come with a factory nose bird as it falls into the omitted list. Thats amazing, my car sold new in June 1970 and if I understand it correctly Pontiac didn't want anybody to put a nose bird on until after Sept 29th. That would explain why they didn't just throw the decal in the trunk. I doubt I would have waited 3-4 months to put it on if I bought it new.
I would love to see the other Tech Bullitens. |

What's the build date on your car and what plant is it from? My 70 has an 06C build date out of Norwood. Should I not have the "Bird" sticker on my nose? Mine has it, but the car was repainted by the previous owner In fact, my stripes are painted on, as opposed to decals. You can see how the blue is all one shading and doesn't fade from a dark border to light. There is a black border around the stripe, but that too is hand painted. The bird on the nose is a decal, and isn't even on very straight. Now I'm wondering if it should be there at all..

racerboy mine is a 06B Norwood car. Personally I think it should be there, it was intended to be and would look funny without it. And you know what everybody would then be telling you about your car right???
Hec even the 73 without the Big Bird on the hood got a little bird on the nose. |

Once again I think it would be correct to have the bird. But if you wanted to piss judges off..... Just one of those "never say never"
Now up. Mirror Mirror on the bird.. You Formula guys are next! |

By the way. Just for fun. How many of you have one of these at the house?
Just $595 back in 70. Im lucky. I got mine for $50 and it came with the HEI upgrade issued in 73. I will say I did use one in my daily job for awhile. (Im dating myself) P.S. I do love this monster. |

DAR and racerboy, what is the VIN of your cars?
TA's between VIN's 228870N121235 to 228870N127854 were the one's affected by the delete.

Yeah, they show that in the FBird Supplement Manual if I remember right. Looked pretty darn nice.

In the manual it was just a black and white drawing. AND, it had camaro tail lights on it.

I would have to presume it was intended to be the same as a 67-69 Firebird 400 trunk badge - which was the same pattern and colour as the other 400 badges; so in the case of the '70 I would suspect it should be the same style "400" script, and probably just crome. Where as the '70 "400" grille badge was an Esprit only part, the trunk badge was a Formula only part (interestingly the 1970 Firebird molding charts do not indicate any Base or Esprit grille badges; only fender badges - in 1971 they show no fender badges; only the grille badges.) 1970 FIREBIRD MOLDING CHART 4 PART #9808505 PLATE, LID "400" (GROUP #12.182) I would have to guess this part was never installed on a production car. My educated guess is because the ordering info for a 1970 Fireird Formula was the same as a 67-69 Firebird 400, as a matter of fact the custom manifest for my car actually describes it as a 1970 Firebird 400; I have read several sources that indicate the 1970 Firebird Formula was supposed to actually be an extension of the 67-69 "Firebird 400" model, and as such keeping some commons styling cues would make sense to me. If anyone knows of one of these existing, Id really like to see it... (one could always PM if you want to sell it too!)
