Dupont 580s replacment
Does anyone know if there is a replacement for the old 580s enamel clear coat? I have tried a few test pieces of various BC/CC systems and am not happy with the results. I have almost a gallon of Lucite mixed 20 years ago to compare it too and the results ranged from so-so to downright horrible.
The main issue seems to be in the amount and size of the flake. Some are too little, some are too coarse. I mixed the lucite myself back in the day so I know it is correct. The closest I have seen in a current formula was some SW 7000. The old 580s was great stuff back in the day and other than adding a little gloss and protection did not change the color IMO. So, IS there any product on the market today like it?

I tried to have some Lucite copied with BC/CC. It took the guy mixing the paint a few days to get it to look close. After it's painted it just does not look the same. The color is close but the paint is not deep like the Lucite.

Lucite base and 580 clear was the best system going in my opinion! It sprayed great, was durable, easy to work with.
The Chromabase system is a close second with Nason being right there with it.
