You read it correctly. There is a NEW aluminum block for the Pontiac Enthusiast. Jim Butler Performance has started manufacturing a NEW aluminum block. Only very basic information is available, at least from me. It is 108 pounds lighter than the traditional Pontiac cast iron block which will make it approximately 150 pounds lighter than the IA cast iron block. It will accept all Pontiac bolt on accessories. There are three blocks at this time with one being built for Rodney Butler. The lucky people that will be attending the Pontiac Southern Nationals in Dallas will be able to look and touch it as Jim Butler Performance will have it with them along with the 1965 GTO of Rodney Butler.
For those that have an interest call Jim Butler Performance and get the specifics of the block. This is truely an exciting product for the Pontiac Enthusiast. Ron

Is this an all out race piece or are the iron blocks getting hard to find? There are still lots of 400 and 455 blocks up in Canada. There isn't much of a Pontiac following up here as most of our Ponchos came with Chevy engines from the factory.
Any idea on the price of these? Brian

Sweet, I always wondered if there was a market for them.
Forgive my ignorance but will it be designed after the 400 or a 455? If it is a 400 it gives me lots of idea's heh. Aluminum Block, E-Heads, Aluminum Intake - One light engine. Very cool idea, wonder how expensive because if I can afford the block thats what I will work on heh. Fort Mac there Snowbound? I might be heading up there as a coach for the senior games. From Lloyd here, go oil. Tyler

DAMN!!! A month off from dropping all the pieces for the IA motor at the machine shop for final machining and assembly/dyno time. And now there's a possibility I could have a complete aluminum engine. Now thats some food for thought. Guess a call to Butler is in order to get the details. Almost to good to be true.

They are still working on the pricing of the block as we speak. I would think, and this is ONLY ME THINKING, not anyone else, that they would want to keep the price around the IA block, maybe a few dollars more, maybe less. They may not even have a handle on what their costs will be and that will of course really determine the cost.
WOW this is exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ron

Good news, Ron, but like the IA block detractors, I'm sure this block will bring on plenty of naysayers.
Snowbound, it's obviously more for the racers than it would be for the average enthusiast with their street/show car. But if you can build and install an IA motor for your street car, why not an aluminum one? Will someone going to the southern nats please take some digital pics (if allowed) and post them?

I'll still need to lose weight, Ron, but just think of it.
Aluminum rods, lightweight pistons, aluminum heads and intake. hmmmmmmmm.

I will tell you this:
The bore will be much smaller than 4.40". I will speculate the price between $6000-$9000. Will be great in some applications. Not cost effective in others. Cool to see more real race products coming out every day. Causin' pain like two bad nurses..... |
