I have a question qbout distributor #'s. In the LEDGEND magazine for GTO ass. of America, they list the RAIII manual transmission distributor as a 1112024. In the GTO RED BOOK they list it as 1112010. I have a 70 RAIII 4spd and the dist is the 1112010. Can any one give me some clarification on this? Did they use both?

If the Auto RAIII is 1112009 and the RAIV is 1112011 it would make sense that the RAIII manual would be 1112010.

Thank you for any help!

Beau.

Hi Beau,

I researched your question, and here's what I came up with. The distributor out of your car, #1112010, is the correct one. The GTOAA got their number from the engine chart in the beginning of the engine section of the 1970 PMD service manual. That shows the RAIII automatic being #1112009 with an asterisk. The footnote for the asterisk says that the WS code engines get distributor #1112024, which looks to me as an error. #1112010 isn't even on that chart!

When you go back to the engine electrical section of the service manual, it doesn't list the 1112024 distributor on any of the Distributor Specifications charts. But it does show the 1112010 between the RAIII auto #1112009 and the RAIV #1112011 for Tempests and Firebirds. On top of that, the advance calibrations are the same as the 1112009, except the rpm at which the mechanical advance starts. It's 300 rpm lower (@ 800 rpm) on the 1112009 to overcome the automatic.

Also check the build date on the distributor. It is the four digit code next to the distributor number. It should be within reason to the date on the cowl tag.

I hope this helps Beau.
