They call it zinc phosphate. It does tend to be a little more grey phosphate than black phosphate. I remedied that by spraying this first and then really lightly dusting it with flat black. As you do that you can see it darken while still maintaining that sparkle that the real plating has. When done it looks spot on, IMO. Jeff P saw how my vin looked after I did this and he commented how dead on it was.

I would just use the black etch primer from SEM. It is perfect.
