Looking good. What are you shooting for with this port design? CI or other parameters?

Tom,
We will probably maintain the oval but we are just getting started....and thanks for the words of encouragement.

Jeff,
Your exhaust ports seem to work good...no matter what they look like. Congrats on your new best.

Ron,
505 turning to about 7500rpm.

I am designing for a max RPM very close to 7500. Fairly mild compared to your 8000. :-)

Jim will you be doing just one port by hand then run a cnc program to do the heads? Will save a ton of time obviously . Like I said before get a good port as a baseline then tweak it from there after some testing is done either on a dyno or down the track. Looks like nice work so far! Looking forward to it..

See a lot of benefits with a proper (correct shape, area, and attack angle) 'oval' port on a Pontiac engine.

Keep up the great research, Jim.

Lots of talk about the Pro ports on another thread but truly interested parties are not calling me. We need to get a few sets done and running before it will materialize. I am fortunate to have a customer with time, patience and a deserving car/engine to allow these to develop. These need to be as good or preferably better than the hot rods already making strong passes. These are very nice castings and I truly hope Edelbrock's timing does not kill them.

Great.
Looking at tracing and CNC options to save money and duplicate work. At this point the size of the market is of concern.

Thanks Tom. These should be a contender but time will tell I suppose.

Mine peaks at less than 7500rpm does that count?
What kind of hp you hoping for? Any engine/car specs you can share (size of engine, weight and style of car)?

Jim could you measure the distance from the port floor to the deck? Just wondering how they compare to HP and Tiger heads. I am hoping they are raised at least as much as the Tigers if not more.

505 making about 909 HP :-) Car will remain anonymous for now.

Distance from deck to as-cast port floor varies but call it 1.93"

Great looking entry Jim, It looks like you have a nice cross section. Let us know how thin the roof gets when you get further along. Good work!!

I have about .120" of roof thickness now between the spring pocket and the rocker stud boss.

Is it possible to go to 380-390 cfm and digitize the port and then go on to bigger and better for the big boys? Then you would have a head for those of us looking for a good head using our old stuff, rockers, Victor etc. Like killing two birds with one stone. ... Eric.

Default nice looking so far

been following the thread so far. Jim keep posting pics and info. I think these heads are very promising. Wish i had alittle extra $$$ to toy with a set. gonna have to just follow along for now. have you figured out what pocket shape you are going to use yet? and what cc size are you considering?

I decided with the interest this head has generated, I would post a picture of the heads we began working on months back.

This head was the 12.6 degree, it's my understanding the raw castings are the same between both versions. Since I don't have an 11 degree version to compare, I have my opinions on the machining operations they are changing between the heads. It's our opinion for us to market this head, it will need to outperform the current heads on the market.

Flow data will be posted once we are nearing completion.

Thanks.

Are we sure its the same casting - On Edelbrocks site it says the 12.6 degree has a 5/8 raised port and flange and the 11 degree has a 1.25 raised port and flange ???
