Default My First Nine Second Pass

Here is a couple of video links from a week ago Friday September 15 of my first nine second passes. I drive the car to the track and race it the same way I drove it there. Car is an 81 Trans-Am with an IAII 535 block, Butler Wide Port heads, 3.50 gear Moser Nine Inch Rear End, full exhaust system out the back, MT 325x50 Drag Radial, Cal-Trac bars, stock front suspension with 90/10 shocks, car with me in it weighs 3908. Car has no power adders, all motor !! Hope the links work

Thanks for the replys !! Car really drives nice on the street, untill you punch it !!

The car usually 60 fts in the 1.51 range, that night with a different dominator and good air it ran two back to back 1.46 60 foot times.

Congrats Dave, I know you've worked hard for this!

How well do the 325's fit on your car? I've run 28x13.5 QTP's on 10 rims (5.5 BS) on mine, but would love to run those DR's.

The converter is a Continental 10" that I had built for my 461, it flashed to 4100 rpm with that engine. I decided to use it for my 535, it now flashes to about 4700 rpm and I go through the traps at around 6200 to 6300 rpm at 137 mph. Slip is around 5 percent, I need to have a higher flash stall and I am about to change the gear from the 3.50 to a 3.89. I currently shift at 6800 rpm so I think the 3.89 should optimize my trap rpm.

The 325x50 MT Drag radials fit great and usually hook pretty good, this may change when I go to the 3.89 gear. Over the winter I want to upgrade my front suspenion.

Thanks so much for the comments !!

Nice job. I'm planning a 535 build for my street car with plans to get it in the 9's. What cam are you running if you don't mind me asking? I've got the crank and soon will be getting my BME rods, pistons, and some wideports. Debating on what cam to run.

Thanks again guys for the comments !! Car does seem to get noticed at the track and people are surprised when they see a Pontiac engine in there.

The cam is a Comp Cams solid roller with 280/288 duration at .050 with a 112 l/c and is installed at 108.5 degrees.

Dave forgot to mention that the 325/50 MT Drag radials are mounted on 8" rims with 4.5" back space, I would like to get some 10" rims. Jim Hand runs the same size tire on his wagon with a 10" rim that he said I could borrow to see how well they fit.

It doesn't get much better than driving to a race, running a 9 second pass and driving home. I had a friend w/ a blown 427 Camaro drive 50 miles to the track, run 9.90's all day and even won Best in Show on the show side and then drive it home. Very hard to do!

Wareagle,
Thanks for posting the link on the other site, interesting to see other peoples response to the car. I will try to get some pictures of the car posted up soon when I get a chance to get it out of the garage. It is no show car for sure, it still has the original paint.
