Default Pure Stocks at the Co-Vention

Hey Everyone,

The organizers of the PSMCDR have been asked to host/coordinate the Pure Stock portion of the Co-Vention drag race venue. This means that anyone that wants to drag race their pure stock car can do so for FREE, FREE, FREE!!!! This pertains to only the car and driver. Any guests or pit crew will be charged $10.00 each. This is an exhibition event, so there are no trophies or money to win, just the fun of tuning and driving your car to the best times possible. There will be time trials and a best 2 out of 3 race if there are enough cars, if not, you can grudge race any other pure stock car there. We are going to open it up to all makes (GM, Ford, AMC, Chrysler, Studebaker, etc.) that are allowed by the PSMCDR rules. This means any 'muscle car', or factory sleeper-type cars from 1955 to 1974 (pre-catalytic convertor) that came factory equipped with a 4-bbl carb and dual exhaust and conveyed a muscular image (I can't race my '71 4-dr Bonnie hdtp even though it has a 455 4-bbl, dual exhaust and saf-t-trak). We will be teching in cars to assure they are 'legal'. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me.

Essentially, for those that don't know, the cars need to be stock with all the correct casting numbers on the motor, carb, intake and exhaust manifolds, transmission and rear end. No hi-stall convertors, no different make rear ends (Ford 9" or Dana 60's), no headers or partial exhaust, no dealer made cars, no aluminum SD cars (all steel SD's OK), no wider than stock available tires, no sticky tires, and no custom paint jobs or non available colors. Remember, this race was created by guys tired of showing their restored muscle cars.

We want to encourage those of you who have never raced your car before, but always wanted to to come and join the fun. Everyone that was reluctant, or worried about embarassing themselves got hooked and had a great time. All the other participants will be more than willing to help and give great advise from tuning to driving down the track.

We hope to see you there!

Dennis Jensen

i never knew that was part of the protocol . thanks

Guessing that documented "special paint" / "_ _" / and / " * * " / coded cars would be acceptable exceptions within certain boundaries .

The Co-Vention is in Dayton, July 9-13. The race is on Friday the 12th at Kil-kare raceway in Zenia. The track owners are very busy right now putting down 1400' of brand new concrete for us!

We worked with Dan, Dennis and Bob in 09 and the exhibition went well for all involved. The race had the highest spectator turnout of any Convention race i can remember.
I think we had around 16 Pontiac Pure Stocks in 09, it would be great to surpass that!

Last time I had talked to Dan we were going to block rooms at The Hope Hotel, I called to set aside a block of about a dozen rooms within our convention block of 220 rooms. All I can say it seemed like an easy task to me... The lady I spoke with at the hotel seemed to think it was harder to do than I did... anyway, we are going to make sure any pure stock racers rooms are close together. Even though the Hope is a mile or two from the Nutter Center, there is ample parking on site for trallers, the restaurant and bar at the Hotel is excellant and reasonably priced. The rooms are the best deal going as well. I recommend staying there. Post any questions you may have here and we'll get them answered.

Thanks Dennis. I'd been meaning to ask you or Dan if this was going to happen this year. I'm planning on having the GT-37 there. Thanks for the hotel recommendation Paul.

Dang it! I'll be there with my car, but it won't have more than a mile or two on a fresh resto. Need to break in engine and run trans and rear through a few heat cycles before I race it.

Aw c'mon Scott,

Roll 'er off the trailer, warm 'er up and let 'er rip.

15 minutes of driving up and down through the gears in the pits should be plenty of break in.

You can make easy passes before putting too much heat in the clutch.

We're all anxious to see a new car get baptized!

Putting it on and off the trailer is all the heat cycling it needs!!
Drive it like you stole it!!

Dan will be hauling his 455 HO T-37 (the Quezal Gold one, not the two-tone) to race and have fun at the track for a change. Lyndon Hughes and I will be working in the background for all the PS racers. It looks like we'll have a bunch of 12 second GTO's, Birds, and GT-37's/T-37's, not to mention a few other makes to add some interest.
