Default Doug's headers for first gen fitment

I'm mocking up a engine to install in a 68 bird. Got new Doug's 1 7/8 round port headers and installed the drivers side with the engine out at 0 deg. It tilts upward allot to me. Was just checking starter and engine mount clearance.

It is the power steering box that you need to be concerned with. REAL close --- and header tube needs more dimpling done to it than what Doug's has in there...

I am going though that right now with some Mad Dog headers. Lots of little issues. Had the engine in and out 4 times this weekend.

Looks like the Collector Adapter can/will have to take the angle out. Floor board clearance could be a bugger under load.

These were just purchased from summit a couple months ago. You don't get much for your dollars these days.

Ya but doesn't the engine sit angled toward the firewall, just a thought. Still, looks angled a fair amount.

I wouldn’t cut anything without a test fit in the car. With that said I have cut more than a couple of headers to make things go the way we wanted them to. My 2¢

I can't see how a set of headers was built wrong by Dougs which uses jigs to build all sets - this likely means there would be TONS of other bad sets like this one out there if so.....

But perhaps the collector got welded on at a bad angle. Contact Dougs.

Yes.

I wouldn’t be too concerned without fitting them with the engine and transmission mounted in the car. I really doubt that the engine will sit anywhere near 0 degrees in the car.

The tube that goes by the steering box did not need to be dimpled on mine. The engine mounts with that single big bolt that is slotted. When you get it in and get the bolt started pump your hoist up and tighten the bolt at the top of the hole. I did get mine almost 20 years ago...did they change? As far as you tilt up goes mine are nothing like that!

Those things are going to hit the floorboard. On my Mad Dogs one of the 3 bolt flanges will hit the floorboard . If they were not welded and you can spin them they might work. They have slip fit collectors and I have merge collectors so I should be able to angle them down for clearance. Fit and weld in new tabs for the bolts. As it is I have to cut on of the A arm mounting bolts shorter and trim one of the corners of the A arm. But they are race type headers.
chiefs headers look coated so if you need to do any work to them you will mess up the coating. Might need to send them back. He is right, you don't get a lot for your money these days. What a pain.

Pass side was much better. Summit is sending another set and these will go back. Yeah they can be fixed pretty easily but for 1k they should fit out the box.

How recently were these headers bought? Assume that something got messed up in Mexico making them
