Default Homemade muffler for fender exit exhaust

Just sharing this to my fellow Turbo guys. I made a muffler that will fit by the firewall of my Transam. The complete muffler is made out of 304 Stainless , pipes, perforated sheet, end caps and stainless steel wool packing. It didn’t came out perfect but it’s my first one so take it easy on me. I made the muffler body out of 4” piping and I cut it in the middle. I made two and made the other one not as wide. Here are some pictures. Excuse my garage as I’m trying to get my car ready for summer.

Default More pics

Here are some pictures. Also I did not do this to save money as I wanted a certain size muffler that has a 4” inlet and compact to fit my TA. I also wanted all stainless even the packing so that it wont burn off from the high heat from my turbo.

Very cool. I had run just a down pipe on my turbo car for a short time, It was to annoying. I now have a muffler and a turn down under the rear, I can drive for ever now , Street cars need mufflers!

Thanks for a real world experience JSPont. I don't like loud cars anymore. I got old, this is why I did a turbo conversion. My combo made some decent numbers on the dyno. It will be interesting on how it behave in the street. I need to get done this car already.

I ran a pair of these mufflers for a while when I was trying to make my 64 GTO convertible, look like the "Flamme" Pontiac Show Car.

Your 4" Muffler in the Trans Am/Firebird location should work well. Exhaust outlet is under the GTO Triangle.

No problem, For people looking for a part number for the dual front inlet/outlet mufflers, when you click on the Picture the Part Number is at the bottom of the picture.

I'm making a similar pair to take the 'edge' off the exhaust note on my turbo combo, they will be just 6" long and sit up against the firewall. No wadding or silencing material in mine though, using the powerbomb tech that's used on 4 stroke dirt bike pipes.
