Can't believe it has been over 2.5 months and I simply have not had a lot of time to work on the car. Summer has been fun though with travel and family time, so I should not complain.
Continuing to work on some of the chassis/engine stuff. Carbs have been cleaned (pine sol is great stuff) blasted, cleaned, cleaned, cleaned and sealed. Kits came from Daytona parts in FL. Air cleaners are cheap VW louvered from epay that I cut the base to fit the AFB's. Total for both of them was under $50 shipped. Saw a tempest SD with a bathtub dual quad that I liked the way they ran the lines, so I did something similar. I was going to run Buick lids on the AFB's, but would have had to do something about the rad hose so I made this work. Carbs are matching 3895s carbs. Manual carbs so the hot idle is alread blocked. Going to choke the rear but idle both and run straight linkage. On the Alt bracket I simply did not use the 2nd brace that goes to the t-stat as the angle is changed with the offy intake. I added power steering to the car also. Currently there is a 1 wire alt, but not sure if that is going to stay or not. Dizzy was rebuilt by Suntuned and looks like it is new again. Not much else to update on the car. Been working on this a little, and some on the parts car that I have. Overall a good summer and should have some more time to be in the garage once the weather changes. Obviously there are a lot of things to still button up, and if you see something out of place, feel free to let me know! I had to adjust the pics, so the color and such is off due to the dark garage. the picture of the zbar... did you make the bell housing mount? was it fabed up for clearance reasons? i did almost an identical mount when i put a 70 455 in my 63 cat and the zbar broke the ball mount weld off the arm about every 3 months...

Looks great Brad. I've not been working on my car for over a month since other summer projects got in the way (landscaping). So while I'm thinking about it, I'm looking at the z-bar brackets on your car. I think you provided the dimensions for the frame bracket in another thread, so I'll look. On the bell housing bracket, I need the two bend angles. Mine got bent somehow...I'm guessing while still on the previous motor it rolled onto the bracket.

I'll see what i can do for you Matt. I have had several people ask for templates and have been able to make them up and send them out as needed. I am going to create another one tonight, scan it, create a pdf so i can simply email it to people for the frame bracket location. as far as the bell housing mount, i am not sure what to do for you on that. Feel free to come down here sometime, we can bend one up while you are here.
I need some help though. I was going to order brake lines, MC and prop valve through inlinetube, but called and they were not that helpful. Odd issue, but thought i would get more advice that i got. Here is what I am thinking. I am going to stick with manual brakes on the car, but i need to figure out what master cylinder to use (1" bore looks right) as well as what prop valve to use (if that is the correct term) Not much out there for manual disc brakes with dual res for a 65 Catalina and I have not seen any threads on it either. I have not pulled the oe MC yet, but can if that helps to learn anything on what MC i need. I would rather not have the hold off valve as the 1970's did. I would believe that any standard 5 valve prop valve set up for a disc/drum application would work? My big issue is what MC to use. Thanks

Are you leaving Drum brakes on it? If so a 68 Bonnie Master Cyl will work fine.

I haven't use this company but their web site has some good info. I have Scarebird front disc kit and stock drums rear on my Catalina. I just changed my master cylinder to a 1" bore and love it. Got it from Summit SSB-0476. I got the one with the aluminum body as the iron body seems to get a patina of surface rust. I also changed the brake pivot point along with a slight movement of the master cylinder push rod so I could get a brake ratio of about 5 to 1. Made a new push rod for it also. Hope this helps, Jim

I was going to suggest a '67 MC would be a good starting point for a dual.
TO clarify, I have the locate template for the frame bracket, just wondering about the actual bracket dimensions. As for the bell house bracket, I'm thinking you could just trace the profile onto paper then scan it as a PDF. I can use that to correct the angles on my bracket.

Hi Brad
I am using a frame I picked up from a fellow Pyer that I plan on using for a 4 speed conversion. The frame was from New Mixico, and is in excellent shape! I have everything to do the changeover, just haven't had the time to install the trans & bell housing for a mock up to locate exactly where to mount it. A diagram with dimensions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ron

Re the Brakes use a 69 or a 70 master cyl for disc conversions on these cars unless you're trying to shave weight. Check the depth of the pushrod hole but it should be a bolt on.

removed the MC and it has a deep hole. I posted this in the susp section also, but am posting here also. I searched around the net last night and some today. I think I have learned a little about brakes, but want to make sure I understand.
So let me know if I have this right. Bore size only has to do with pressure. Smaller the bore, more pressure and lower force to press the brake in. depth of the push rod hole has to do with manual vs. power. With a manual, you need a deep hole so the rod does not fall out and is secured. Where as on a power MC it is not needed because the rod is held through the booster in place. size of the reservoir is larger on the disc brake side (if disc/drum application) only because as the pads wear, you will drop fluid level more on the discs than on the drums. With all that said, I simply need to find a booster that has a deep push rod hole and has a smaller bore size than 1" and I should be good right? If I don't drive my car much and check my fluid levels regularly I can use any size reservoir? Thanks all!!

Yea, the people that would know, will know and the people that don't, I plan to mess with them for fun. If you know this offy intake, you can see that i removed the 360 from the exhaust ports, the name on the center portion and the extra bosses on the rt side of the intake. This bing a 65 should be a a dead giveaway, along with the offy intake, the carb lids, fuel lines, linkage among a lot of other things. For me, i just wanted it to look kind of clean.

Refresh my memory: Do you have manual or power brakes ?
I have manual brakes on the Catalina and just installed a 1" bore MC, works perfect with disc front/drum rear. Jim
