The Pontiacs didn't do too good in elims. But, Chris Stephenson did make it to round 4.

Thanks. Totally missed the tree 3rd round but it was a fun weekend. Met a lot of really great Div 3 Pontiac racers. I always love going there.

I broke out 3rd round, 10.59 on 10.62 dial. The car is a natural M car, so I run L to avoid the triggering hp review. 3500lbs the lightest the car can get to now. Parsons and Myers in Dayton, Ohio are the Pontiac builders for NHRA stock and super stock.

Too bad I missed this event( totally forgot) My wife decided we were going to a car show we never went to before. It was ok and better than typical... Even a 55Cheiftan 2dr wagon.... I'd of preferred to be at Beech Bend though.
Holley Hotrod reunion in June...it's on our calendar.

Good job Mike. It amazes me how fast you can go with the limitations the rules put on you. Bracket type builds with parts way more capable but not doing much better than you. Glad you posted.

Jimmy I'm sure I'll bump into you sooner or later at Beech Bend... We're you at Huntsville in early March? Saw some Pontiacers that day but didn't meet everyone.

Hey Mike, Thanks for joining & posting !

I only post what little I know & can find out thru other sources. I & probably quite a few others, REALLY appreciate it when you guys who actually do it will post the correct info on these class racing topics.

Please feel free to correct and/or add any & all info you see here. I would especially appreciate anything you could add to the Stock & SS racing threads.

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=817159

Please tell us more about how this "...triggering hp review..." works for only the natural class a car falls into. This is the first I've heard of this.

And I'm sure lots of guys besides me would be interested in knowing more about the details of a 10 sec 350 Pontiac powered Super Stocker.

Yep, it's time for the Route 66 Nationals. Looks like there are 4 Pontiac powered Stockers & 1 Super Stocker on the pre-entry list.

In Stock Q-1, Julie Biermann is #8 with a 10.879 in her '68 E/SA Bird. Randy Lyn Shipp is #19 with a 10.688 in her C/SA '67 bird. And Chris Stephenson is #25 with his '68 Bird. This week he's running E/SA. He's run C/SA, D/SA, & E/SA. From what I can gather, most cars can run their natural class, OR a class higher or lower, by adding or removing weight. For nearly 50 years, the NHRA hp factor was 330, for the 330hp '68 Bird engine. Weight was listed at 3300lbs. So the car was a perfect natural E/SA. But, not too long ago, NHRA upped the hp factor to 338. So now, it's natural class is D/SA. Would have to add 80lbs to make E/SA now.

Interesting that Billy's '72 has a '73 SD455 shaker hood & scoop on it...Is he running as a 73 SD Formula, or is this at a bracket race where it doesn't matter.

The DRC site says it's a '72. The pics I have show a '72 honeycomb grill.

Maybe the T/A spoiler & wheel flares are optional, according to NHRA rules. I don't know. There are obviously LOTS of NHRA rules I'm not aware of.

I remember that the 2nd gen Adam Davis had & sold was listed as a '73. But, it had the '71 front fender louvers on it. Have also noticed that Randi Lyn's '67 Bird don't have front turn signal lights. She's been to lots of national events, where the car always passes tech. Maybe nowadays they don't sweat the small stuff like they did back in the old days.

As a natural M car I can run L, M, or N by removing or adding weight. If you run 1 sec. or more under the class index twice in the same grade period, your combination will be reviewed for additional horsepower. A run 1.20 or more under results in automatic horsepower.

Again, thanks for the info !

I'd read about the 1.2 under automatic increase. But, never heard of the 1 sec under deal.

Exactly what is the "same grade period" ?

After 2 rounds of Stock qualifying , Chris Stephenson is #3, with a .981 under run of 10.569, in his D/SA '68 Bird. Randi Lyn is #26, with an .822 under run of 10.578, with her C/SA '67 Bird.

Don't recognize any of the SS cars as being Pontiac powered. As always, if I'm overlooking a Pontiac, please post that info.

Chris Stephenson made it as far as round 4. So, I reckin the Pontiacs are done, for this race.
