Autolite 85
I like these plugs better than AC even if I get crap from the counter guys saying i'm running Ford plugs in a GM.
What is one step cooler than this plug and still has a resistor? This is for an iron head. |

I agree with Autolite plugs. Instead of thinking of them as Ford plugs, just think of them as the plugs Ford chose to use.
I believe the next colder plug is an 84, but I'm not positive. Maybe someone else knows for sure.

I prefer the AC plugs. They re-light better if fuel fouled. IMO.
Then ask the counterman what he drives. I'll bet 20 bucks it's a piece of junk. And to kiss your LWA$$

Autolite isn't Ford anymore. Motorcraft is.

Mine has a better idle with the Autolite plugs.

I've always liked Autolites as well. I think the next one colder is a 75. Used to use those in my race motor with iron heads.

Your gonna be hard pressed to find a "cooler" projected tip/resistor plug in a 3/8" reach/gasket plug like this nowadays.
Closest I've found is the Autolite 303. It's a non-projected tip/resistor plug one or so steps colder than stock. Autolite and AC both have eliminated a bunch of older plug no.s lately, and these 3/8" reach plugs were'nt the hottest sellers to begin with,so they got cut down to the minimum application coverage. Autolite 73/74/75 have all been dumped IIRC. AC cut the even part no.s outta their line-up (R42S/R44S/etc). Denso or NGK might be the best prospects for a plug like this. But even they're dropped some no.s as well. Denso WPR20-U might be the closest candidate I can find quickly. Otherwise you'll be looking @ projected tip/non-resistor racing plugs for the most part.
