Default Accel distributor caps 12.99

There are only 5 left. Come in the Accel cap and rotor box, but there is no rotor.
I bought 2. Socket style
Thing is, I am having a hard time finding a quality rotor. Accel, MSD. Mallory ect.
Anyone have a link for just a good rotor ?
But the price is so good on these we might as well snap them up.

Echlin was the OE manufacturer for Accel ignition parts other than spark plugs. NAPA/Echlin distributor cap: RR 1650 is the exact same cap. Same brown color. $15.99 at NAPA. Showing 47 in the national warehouse system. I have a gut feeling they are being discontinued. They have the same cap in black: RR 165 $23.99. There are over 100 in stock in the national warehouse system. For a quality rotor that is not a Chinese see through piece of crap: Echlin RR 1670 $8.69.

I've been buyng NOS off Ebay for at least 10 years now. Just purchased two complete "kits" for points distributors, cap, rotor, points and condenser, $25 each. No supply shortage as of yet and these parts are excellent quality compared to a lot of what's being offered out there at this time......

That is one heck of a deal! Just a set of Echlin heavy duty points alone is the cost of that entire kit. Great buy.

Well, those caps are all bought up by you guys.
When I got mine last week there were 11 caps left. Should have let the PY folks know sooner.
Thanks for that RR 1650 part number Mike. I can get a Nappa discount through a old employers account so it might workout even cheaper for me.
I could not find good rotor just by itself on Amazon, Summit . Just cap and rotor kits. Bought a AC one on Amazon but its thin and made in Mexico.
My favorite cap was the old Mallory ones with the deep red color. Don,t think you can get them anymore.

These are the points I run.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/acc-8104acc

Accel 32 ounce spring. Everyone sells them for 53$ I used to have the Nappa part number to get them for 20 bucks. Does anyone have a source for the same points for less ?

I found a old NOS Mallory Pro Master coil on E Bay. Its sweet. love the old school look. I can remember staring at these things back in the 80s in my PAW! catalog wishing I had one. That PAW catalog was our car guy wish book back in the day. The coil has the old red box, instructions and mount and its heavy and Made in the USA. They still sell them new for 167$, but I bet they are made in China. I paid 100 bucks for mine and its better.
Its part number 29440. The only question I have is about use with my MSD 7-AL. I would think it would be OK to run together. I know Mallory made a even hotter red coil they said would even light Nitro. But I remember something about those things burning up folks CD boxes. My 7-AL is a old USA made one and I do not want anything to happen to it.

So many people think you get more power with a MSD distributor, HEI and all that. Nope. Good points do not bounce and a CD unit make makes them last a LONG time. And few Pontiacs need any ignition past 8000 RPM.
You get 5-7 more HP with a crank trigger but I do not know it I will ever use the one I have. And I know I will never use the BOP sideways mount distributor setup given to me. Looks cool though.

I bought the last 2 caps.

Figured why not at that price.

Thanks for the heads up on that deal.

Echlin/NAPA CS86 are standard tension points
CS786 points are good to at least 6500 RPM
CS7860 are good to over 7K but wear the rubbing block somewhat quickly due to the stiff spring
All of them are under $30 at your local NAPA

I run the accel 23 ounce points which are standard tension in the z and they've been perfect to 7200 rpm.
Also have them in the firebird and nomad.

No source for cheap prices though. They've always been expensive. I still have some from when I stocked up on a few 15 years ago and they have a $35 sticker on them so $50 this day and age doesn't sound horrible to me given the prices of everything else at ridiculous levels.

Stock tension points are fine for most Pontiac engine builds as few make power past or see above 5500rpm's or so. They will also make MORE power as you get some natural timing retard at high RPM's when the dwell falls off just a bit. They may even act like a rev-limiter WAY up there in the RPM range but I try not to test that deal out very often!.........

I picked up a set of CS786 points on E Bay, 9$ I wanted to buy 4-5 sets but that was all he had.
Thanks for the numbers.
Now off to Nappa where I will get a couple more sets, maybe a set of CS7860 too just to see the difference.

A while back, Holley blew out SBC ready to run distributors for $29.95 incl shipping. The tan cap, rotor and Accel 4 pin module interchange w Pontiac so I bought one just for those parts and threw out the distributor.

Received my 2 Accel distributor caps today. The sun-faded boxes they came in look like they’d been sitting in some old speed shop’s store window for who knows how many decades.

The boxes originally contained a cap and rotor kit and after opening the first box as expected only the cap was inside which is all they were advertised to be. The second box had both the cap and rotor inside, a nice little unexpected bonus.

These Accel caps are high quality and I’m plenty happy enough with the color. Pretty much the same color as the cap on the Joe Hunt Vetex magneto I purchased back in 1981 for my VW drag car.
