Default Ames is now the caretaker of the first production 1969 Trans AM !!!!

We have in our possession, the first production Trans Am to come down the line in 1969!! The T/A has the VIN ending in #118850 making it not only #1 of the 20 Trans Am produced at the Van Nuys plant in 1969, but also the first period. This information was verified by Jim Mattison of PHS as well as Fred Simmonds of Pontiac confirming it to be #1 of 697 Trans Am’s built for 1969. This car set the stage coming down the line with a 400 RAIII coupled to a 4 speed muncie transmission and Cameo white paint with iconic blue stripes. The T/A was held on its first invoices for Pontiac Manager of Car Distribution J.T. Wilson and we can only assume at this point it was used for photography for print as well as TV advertising and shows for some time. We’re very excited to have the first car to begin the Trans Am legacy as well as being a huge piece of Pontiac history now sitting in our show room and in our care!!!

The first two pictures are from the proving grounds in 1969.

Question curious...

a friend has an early T/A with "Ram Air" emblems, not decals on the hood...and they come with documentation! Wondering if this or any other T/A that you are aware of have these emblems.

Can you post the documentation?

There is some that say the decals were not factory installed?
(let alone anything else)

Easier said than done!! But that would be very cool!!

I will try and post up some documents, To answer the questions about the story. At this time we do not have much more solid info on the history from about 1970 until around mid-late 80's, but if anyone has info on this car we would be all ears!!! As far as the decals and emblems questions go, To my knowledge this is a good example of how they rolled off the line as a production car, You will see different color decals as well as additional decals and stripes on the spoiler on the Pre-production cars.

Will you be reproducing any new parts unique to this car (69 T/A)?

Looking for the 1" cylindrical rubber sleeves that are clamped onto the anti-sway bar.

Amazing, and congrats!!!

Please let me know if you would like a correct reproduction window sticker for that 1969 Trans Am! I've created accurate reproduction window stickers for some of the finest 1969 Firebirds and Trans Ams in the country, and would love to see a correct version displayed on this car, using the correct form.

FYI, the stripes over the spoiler and the red Ram Air stickers (or any Ram Air stickers for that matter) on 1969 Trans Ams featured in ads and some road tests were on pre-production cars only.

Mike
