I have a nesting pair at the back of our property. Last year they had babies, now they’re back again. We very few ground animals like rabbits, squirrels, snakes and rodents. I love the birds, buthe hawks will grab them right off of the feeders.

I was working behind my shop one night and saw a rat on my neighbors patio roof and thought about getting my pellet gun and shooting when a large Owl came out of no where and landed on it. The Owl noticed me and just glanced at me and took off. Awesome birds.

The one in my back yard has been here for at least 6 years.

Here's how they sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fppKGJD3Y6c

There are more than one and when they do this laughing thing in middle of night sounds eerie

Confirmed!
There is a small young owl in the Birch tree hollow / nest and I saw the parent in a pine tree not far away
I'm thinking time for some social distance

When my dad and I were farming my grandparents farm we were out on the far side of the property and saw what looked like a calico cat tangled in the barb wire fence with a bird. As we got closer I saw that it was a great horned owl. It was dead from a dive gone wrong getting caught in the fence. The legs we over a foot long and looked like a yellow cat but with huge talons as sharp as needles. The body was at least a foot and a half tall and a wing span of six feet. I held it up with a leather work glove with the points of the talons poking into it. So sad to see a majestic predator die like that.
