Default Throw out bearing position

Basic question for u guys. When I took out tranny it was a little tough doing from ground. While taking out the bearing fell out and I did not see which way it was in. So that’s the question. Looking at shift fork below- which side of the bearing should be facing out towards the tranny? The bigger side or smaller side with lip?

The part your fingers are touching goes to the engine side.

2nd picture. YOUR hand is now on the flywheel/clutch disc/pressure plate fingers side of the bearing. see post 2
The large end diameter of the throw-out bearing should point towards the flywheel.

The large diameter pushes against all of those pointed fingers on the pressure plate.

The wide channel at the end of the throw-out bearing is supposed to have the "C" shape
on the clutch fork FIT INSIDE THAT CHANNEL.

SO RIGHT NOW, JUST TAKE THE BEARING AND INSTALL IT PROPERLY ON THE CLUTCH FORK.

Then you can install the input shaft of the trans THRU the throw-out bearing and into the clutch disc/flywheel bearing.

It is a good idea to make a couple of Guide Pins that fit the top holes of the trans/bell-housing bolt pattern to help with
the alignment.

Ok thanks guys. Makes sense.

And Tom I think what you are describing is The channel on the smaller diameter that faces towards the tranny has a flat part- it’s not a perfect round. So that flat part should be positioned at the open c of the fork?

Correct. The fork fits inside the flat groove of the throw-out bearing.
