Default Looking for valve relief sizes on TRW/Sealed Power pistons.

The 389 I just picked up came with a detailed parts list for its rebuild. It lists the pistons as Sealed Power L-2269-030. I know they're .030 over but I am wondering about the valve relief size and if they are going to work with later heads.

I came up with information on clearances and dishing them when I did a search.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Thanks for the quick reply. The paperwork with the engine is dated 2004. I think you have provided the answer I needed.

The valve notches in those 389 Pistons due to the earlier heads 20 degree valve inclination angle will be ( 1) deeper. ( 2) not as wide, ( 3) in the wrong place for the later heads 14 degree inclination angle.

If your going to run iron or aftermarket heads with about a 72 CC chamber then your going to be limited to about running no more then about .440" lift depending on a few build detail factors.

I was afraid that was going to be the case. Looks like I'll be doing some piston machining. I believe this poor engine has suffered the fate of being rebuilt by someone who didn't understand how to build power in a Pontiac.
Thanks for the information.

So I guess your pistons look like these as found on EBay?

If so then each valve notch looks like 3 CCs for a total of 12 CCs.

I haven't pulled a head yet to confirm. The engine was said to ping badly. It's a .030 389 with 092 heads and a xr276 HR cam with 1.6 rockers.
