Production number look up
Hey Guys,
How are you actually getting the numbers of Production vehicles, as far as Colors and trim? Where can i look up this information i did some searching but never found anything that narrows it by Paint color or such. I've only ever seen pictures of one other Quezal Gold 1971 T-37. Curious to know the numbers or how to look them up. Thanks |

No break down on how many of each color as far as I know. Might be a estimated number?
Lyn.

There is a hardcover book called Original Pontiac GTO that has exterior color breakdowns for 70-71 GTO (no Lemans/T's) Other than that it's a guesstimate .

Cool, great info. I did see someone once post a number about Post cars VS Coupe numbers, also wondered if that was a guess or not.
Thanks guys! |

there are numbers per color. On common cars...read high production..its harder to get the numbers. On low production cars..like post gt37s there are fewer cars and someone has done the work..talk to Diego..he has records..many cars are extrapulated etc..but if the info is known he will share

On '71 & 71 1/2 GT-37s have solid info on nearly 1/6 of the entire years production. On '71 233 series 2 doors, compiled data is pointing to Rosewood Poly being the least ordered color. Nordic Silver is also seldom seen. The more common '71 233 colors I've recorded include: -Cameo White -Tropical Lime -Lucerne Blue -Quezal Gold -Cardinal Red -Limekist Green -Castillian Bronze (but not on GT-37's, just 233's.) In respect to 53-53 paint code '71 233 2 doors, have parted on well over 2 dozen in yards and a few being my own partscars. One of the oddest '71 LeMans 23537 parts cars I ever hauled in was a factory 2 tone Quezal gold with Aztec gold painted roof car. Would have loved to have been there when that one was ordered, just made little sense.

The only way to get a good estimate on classic Pontiac production numbers down to model, trim, motor, options, etc is for Jim Mattison to run his microfilm records through a conversion process, and through to an endpoint of a database.
Maybe PHS is working on a project already however I suspect there is not much to gain (financially) from such, other than telling you your car is one of "X" when you order your PHS. Work to do this would include scanning millions of microfilms and converting those to a digital format. Each one of these would have to be "OCR'ed" or made searchable through software, then these flat files manipulated into a database somehow. Not cheap to do as we know here at work! The PHS request form has a checkbox asking if you own the car, or are looking to purchase it. If PHS kept a record of which VIN's where requested (I'm sure they do ), that would be the ultimate database or registry of Pontiacs left on the road!

I wonder if I have the only remaining Code 78 Rosewood Poly GT-37?
John Sawruk had some interesting numbers in an article in Smoke Signals back in 2007. Only 71 GT-37s were produced in Rosewood. There are some other interesting tidbits too. Article posted here: http://www.gt-37.org/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=1271 |

Norm, believe that is a regular 235 series LeMans. Love the color, but it would have looked so much better with the correct D98 stripes

John had access to a lot of things we don't being in Pontiac so long & also being a car guy that loved the GT cars. He helped me out with getting the correct screen for the NASA hood scoop inserts fro my 73 GTO back in 85. Remember he was the head of special productions before we lost him, so I'm sure he could get or find things that were out of reach to most.

John had access to a lot of things that were later sent to the GM Heritage Center. Fred Simmonds also looked at a bunch of stuff - I bet they looked at the same stuff. I can't say everything they've looked at is now at the GMHC, but considering 1970 and 1971 GTO colors have been published, and there's a list of 1970 GT-37 colors floating around, I am surprised that no one has encountered a '71 list other than bits and pieces of information from a column such as this.
