Default Pontiac Southern Nats back in 08?

Anyone have the inside as to whether the Pontiac Southern nationals will be back in Ennis Tx in 2008? Trying to figure out where I am racing this year since the guys I normally race with all wear their feelings on their sleeves...

I always enjoyed attending and participating at PSN every year, I happen to be wearing the '99 t-shirt today. I think if we would have the show portion at a hotel closer to the track that it would not be as likely to have the same issues as before. I am finally getting close to having my 68 ready to roll. I would certainly like to hear more about a PSN return.

I'd also be interested in attending if it were to come back. There are half a dozen or so of us local guys that would attend.

Yes. San Antonio. First weekend in June. That's the popular rumor.

Don't take me for gospel. Some of the DAPA member will chime in here, I'm sure. That's just a rumor I heard on the grapevine.

When I heard it I was disappointed because it conflicted with Hot Rod Power Tour. I can't be 2 places at the same time. HRPT is a lock for me.

It would be great if they brought it back next year. It would also be great if I got my car done in time to race, but I doubt that will happen. At least I could go and check out some nice cars and good racing.

if anyone or dapa would consider attending/putting on a race this coming year in shreveport, la. shoot me a pm. the owner is receptive to speciality events and the track is better than ennis/motorplex.

It's about a 6 hour haul for me but I would come down for a Pontiac event... More than double that amount to San Antonio and by then we will be well into $4+ per gallon of gas No feelings is a +

The last feedback I recieved was that track management at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis was not receptive to working with DAPA anymore. When asked about having it at a local 1/8 mile track apparantly many of the members are not receptive the idea of a 1/8 mile track. And as Critter stated as of late the idea presented is to use the San Antonio Raceway in Seguin located east of San Antiono, thought is it has lots of nice hotels and family intertainment places like Sea World and the River Walk nearby. Personally I've got a gut feeling the attendance could suffer at a event held that far south from the Dallas/ Ft Worth area where many members are located and from many located North. One positive note though, the San Antonio track is a very nice facility.

Vendors have shunned the PSN's for the past several years anyway.

While attending the POCI convention in Tulsa this past July, I also heard from reliable sources that the PSN's would be in / around San Antonio. Racing in Seguin.

A "done deal" is what I was told. Unfortunately, I've heard bary a peep since then.

With the 4 or 5 pontiac clubs in the Houston area.........has anyone ever considered Houston Raceway Park?
I bet a combined effort among the presidents of each club could approach the Don Gay family(owners of HRP) in hosting an all-pontiac event.

Just checked again, and DAPA's website is STILL a dead link . . .

http://www.dapa.org/

Not a good sign.

Agreed, Larry.

But . . . it takes solid commitments from LOTS of folks and untold hours of grueling and thankless legwork to "make it happen".

The biggest reason that the PSN's didn't happen in 2006 or 2007 is that the same DAPA core group did the work every year. They got TIRED!

No offense, but why is everyone "Pigeon Holing" the race in Texas? Especially if DAPA isn't puttintg it on their are other areas of the South. Their are plenty of options in Southern OK., Western Arkansas, and even some in the North Western part of Mississippi.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the past PSN were held in Texas, however if you really want to have one the highways roll both ways. JD

Edit: How about running at the Sallisaw OK track or splitting the "distance" and running a 1000' foot track?

Bet the Sealy track could be rented ALOT cheaper than Baytown.Mu car has always consistantly hooked the best there. The roadcourse there could even be used for the cornering guys, if Hennesey doesn't sell them a Viper

Hennesey is a LOSER.

I doubt the track is even gonna be open much longer, Skip.

A little birdie told me that the "tax man" is looking for him.

Several cars from Midland Odessa and Abilene would most likley make the trip. At least used to. We are kinda in nowhere land out here as far as events since the Dallas deal stopped. San Antonio isn't much farther....
