Until we get a neoprene seal made specifically for Pontiacs, the rope remains the best bet. Install as per factory assembly manual and you'll get good service.

I have had good a bad experiences with both. I ran into Pete McCarthy at the drags one time and discussed this with him. It was his opinion that the neoprene didn't seem to give as predictable a result as the rope. When installing the rope seal, you need to go by the factory manual for field repair. It is my belief that the non-asbestos based rope seals are not as easy to install with no leaks as the original factory seals. They all seem to require pre-loading, as described in the factory manuals.
