Default Termec transmission

Has any one put T 600 Termec 5 speed stick in a 63 Grand Prix? If so did the floor pan or trans hump have to be changed? American Power Train tells me they are 80 percent sure it will fit with no mods to the car.Ihate to order it & then have to cut on the car. The car is too nice for that. Thanks. Waterdog

Here's a thread on installation of a Tremec TKO600 in a '61 Bonneville: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=533611 1961-1964 floor pans were the same, even in his Bonneville which has a larger hump than a Catalina or Grand Prix he still had to cut and modify it to get the transmission to fit.

I think you are right Tom. The salesman said they would work the case over & send alow profile rear mount & if body mounts are at spec it should fit. Ha, should fit.Id like to show him where it will fit. May have to stick with the T 10 & look for a different rear end.Thank all for the info. Waterdog

I thank you again. Steve at Pontiac Heaven is interested in the diff I have & will trade.Mine is a safety track 342.Its ok until you get on the freeway trying to run 75 or so with everyone else. I live along ways out so any where I want to go is 80 miles or so. AM having the 421 rebuilt & don't want to wear it out running high RPMs,plus the gas. Should have the engine back in about 5 wks. Car has 8 lug wheels so taller tires are out.Im am probably stupid but I like the 8 lugs even if you cant find many places to get them changed or balanced.

Another option you might consider is an interstate/economy muncie from autogear mated to a 3:08 rear diff. Id expect a better fit.

3.08 and a T-10 is a relatively simple swap and a great combo if you are not going to beat the crap out of it. Steve can probably source you whatever you need to get that done.

There may be another option that I plan to try in my 65 GTO. In the mid 80s Chev truck used a New Process A833 4-speed. The 3-4 shift arm was turned upside down so 3rd would become 4th and the original 4th position was made into overdrive. There were two bellhousing bolt patterns, Chrysler that takes its own bellhousing and one the same as Muncie. Dimensionally it is very close to the Muncie.

1st - 2.984
2nd - 2.043
3rd - 1.468
4th - 1

They call it their ultrawide ratio (m22z). With a 3.08, i'd think it would behave like a 3sp manual with 4th for highway cruisin. im in the process of installing their m22w drag race special w/ the -6x option (early tailshaft design) and will post a thread of results.

Default Tremec TKO

I am looking at the Tremec to replace my muncie. I see tunnel mod is inevitable. But will the stick line up with my center console?????

Don't know what console you have but built the tunnel flat across the top & it worked out fine .You can buy top a top shifter plate with a L shaped shifter stick bracket that let you move the shifter front to back 3 or 4 inches & left or right about 4 ins. Don't know long your trans.is but the t 6oo was about 1 in. longer than the T 10. You will have to build atrans. mount or move the cross member. I did not to move the cross member as car has new pipes & mufflers on it & didn't want to redo them so I built a mount. also you have to do a driveshaft mod. There was plastic mounts under the carpet for the chrome console to screw to. You do not need to use them if you build a flat top console.Keep the mouths as they are worth $$. Am not too good on computer but make some notes & give me a call.707 815 1674

Don't you want overdrive to be less than 1:1? i know my 200 has a .67 OD.

X2. Otherwise you may as well have any old Trans. They all end up there.
