I have a 68 GTO 400 with a 4 speed. The problem I have is that 4th gear keeps falling out of gear. It happens mostly if you are going downhill or let of the gas in 4th. Is this just a adjustment that needs to be made?

Neil,

Assuming that your shifter is properly adjusted, the problem is worn synchros and blocking rings in your Muncie. The only thing which will fix this problem is a rebuild.

Good Luck,

K.

I am not sure if the shifter is centered for I just got the car. How do I determine if it is. Would it be hard to change out the worn synchros and blocking rings? I am mechanically inclined but have never worked on a 4 speed. Are special tools involved?
