Do you need to drill out the main oil passage if it is miss aligned from the factory? It almost looks like they drilled from both ends of the block.

Vascar, Every pontiac block I have seen has the misaligned galleys. I personally can't see any type of gain if they were aligned. The engineers knew what they were doing and if it was a problem surely they would have fixed it in the beginning.

I was thinking about better oil distribution and proper oiling to all the mains. Since all the oil travels through this passage and the factory engineers made the passage a certian size I thought it might be good to make it that size throughout.

Where do you see the mis-alignment? Is it between cylinders 2/4, or 3/5?

Mine were straight and smooth in my 455. I wonder if this mihgt be a cause for the bearing problems in some pontiacs. If the gallerys are restricted maybe there isn't enough oil getting to the front bearings ?

Pete I found the mismatch on the even bank. It looks like there is a football shape it the oil passage in the main oil feed line.

77TA That's what I was thinking. I think if there is a restriction there that shouldn't be that it will cause problems in a high output motor. Finding a bearing problem after you spent hard earned money isn't my idea of fun.
