I don't know if 7s are possible, given the head flow. Not saying Kelvin won't/can't do it, I just don't think it is possible. Maybe a 7.99 in ideal weather conditions. Going from an 8.37 to a 7.99 is a pretty big jump. It is not like going from a 9.37 to 8.99, which is hard enough anyway.

But I hope he proves me wrong, and if you do, please let me know.

Good luck

Thanks

No problem Tom, I will let you know. Tulsa has a T&T a week from Friday that I'm gonna try and make, so hopefully we'll see then.

Our combos are very similar overall with horsepower. My car may be a few pounds lighter, but yours probably has the edge on aerodynamics. So, judging by what your car is running so far, I would think I should be able to break into the 7's, as well. I'm hoping, anyway.

Thanks a lot guys, for all the kind words. Can't wait to get it back on the track to see what it will do. I may need a refresher course though, it's been almost 2 years since I've been down the track in it.

I'm sure a refresher course is in order..
I was off track almost two years myself.
New car, more power, with 1,000 lbs less weight and so forth..
RT's are all over the place.. Thank God it goes straight...
Good luck Kelvin..

Almost 1,000 hp CV-1 at around 2,350 lbs 7's should be a piece of cake! Q16 at Norwalk is getting tougher and tougher to qualify for on the door side !

There was about 16 HP difference between the gas and alky, but because the gas torque curve peaked higher than the alky, the engine was only pulled to 7400 RPM and it was still climbing. Kelvin didn't want to pull the engine any higher as he is concerned about the forged crank and the breakage some has seen. It's my opinion the gas carb may have been a bit small as it was a dyno shop carb on loan for the test and not built for his combination.

This CV-1 build has made the most power of any to date.

The results that were achieved stems from Kelvins willingness to take direction and recommendations along with his hard work and efforts.

Would be awesome to have an all 7-second door car field!

I run on alcohol. We just did the first few pulls on gas to get heat in the engine quicker and get the rings seated. I have raced on gas a few times, though. Usually just the last race or 2 of the season when it starts to get cool out.

Like Calvin said, if we would have had the gas carb dialed in or a different one, hp would not be much different, just a higher rpm peak on gas. But, torque is a fair amount different, 727 on gas and 760 on alky. When I dyno'd my old motor, I had a good gas carb tuned for it, along with my alky carb and hp was really close, + or - a few. But, even on that combo, there was a big difference in torque.
