Port appears similar in diameter to a NON cj 429/460 Ford and shaped better.(I got a peek at a RA5 the other day). I wouldnt think they were too big for a street car unless you were stictly shooting for best mpg.

We redesigned the heads about 6 months ago to be much smaller than even before. We then do exactly the way as Pontiac by running the valve pocket cutter down the throat of the intake valve to get the diameter we desire. Tony needs a smaller valve pocket to start off with for porting, but that would affect our "as cast" customers. So to keep from having two different castings, this allows us to provide a smaller throat area with material for porters without sacraficing flow for the "as cast" customers. Pontiac really knew what they were doing in this respect making castings to match the greatest possible number of applications.

Some progress...

.406" pilot hole for pushrods centered on the rocker stud hole. Will install at least a .500" hole on this set.

Overall this 455 looks good with a set of V heads and single plane intake. Will have to mill a bit off the intake to achieve a optimum fit.

Jim, The first pic.Just curious as to the "small valley pan" that you have welded down and bolted in.

BTW looks pretty.

I know this sounds crazy but if someone could figure out a way to put o-rings around the pushrods at the top and bottom instead of using a tube, I bet that would help flow out.

We designed the single 4 intake to be the same height as a stock Pontiac when used with our heads.

This is very close to becoming a reality, but requires precision engine building and cannot be installed for a "bolt on" application. There is more technology here than you think. We can also use this push rod hole as a "support" for the push rod to eliminate flexing. Many race engines are now using as big as 9/16 push rod diameters to handle valve train flex and paracytic losses. What if you had a bearing fit for a smaller pushrod? All I am saying right now, but I love this kind of stuff!

Lynn

I don't really see that being possible because the rocker goes througha sweeping motion and the pushrod angle is constantly changing. Good thought though. I really don;t see the pushrod tube being a big problem either. Maybe in a max effort deal where every cfm counts, but for the purpose I think Lynn has in mind, I don't see it as a factor.
