i wan't to put in a bigger cam but i don't want to rev my 455 past 5000. how big of a cam would you think i should use? i don't care about streetability i just want a faster 1/8 mile time without going much over 5000.

Go to the 2801 or 2800, but why don't you want your 455 to go over 5000? My 462 with basically the same cam will go well over 5500 if I let it. 1/8 times are in the 7's. The 2802 would be better suited to an engine with more compression. What your asking for is a paradox, and I don't mean 2 Doctors.

I would believe you are not even close to having that thing tuned to its optimum potential,Forget the cam and get yourself a continental 13 conv...best money ever spent!! ...don't give up so soon on your setup....

Sorry, I think you will need more compression, at least a 750 cfm carb, traction and gearing. You will have to wind your engine to the max (5500).

More compression is nice but,you definatly need more carb,a convertor, and TRACTION,and if you are using the stock 75 intake get rid of it and get a performer...First order is traction then you will know what your car does every time it leaves the line the you will need to find optimum timing ,jetting,etc...dont give up so early...It's taken me some time with this new cam I have too but it's getting there and I will be pleasantly surprised come cooler weather!!

I would have to agree with grandville. YOU NEED MORE CARB. Get a cotinental converter, but I think I would go with a ten inch. Loose those skinny little tires.

It's unanimous - bigger carb and bigger tires.
I'm running a loaner 780 Holley and a Performer in my 455 and it's well suited to my car with the 041 cam and ported 6X-4 heads.
I would say get yourself a 750 cfm carb and at least some drag radials - then you can start tuning. If your motor was put together right I wouldn't be afraid to wind it to 5500. Mid 7's are tough for a street driven car but some claim to have done it.

The stock intake will work just as well as a performer intake. The only benefit to a performer intake is weight (which isn't much). Some stock intakes actually flow much better than the performer intake. Of course, if you move to a performer RPM, that's another story.

Up to '74 the stock intake is on par with the Performer. '75 on it will loose some performance.

Just trying something different. Will likely send the tripowers out for rebuild/refinish and going to see what it will do with the 4bbl for now.

Are you using an adaptor plate to run that carb with a stock manifold? If so, throw it in the trash and put a quad or spreadbore holley on and you should see a BIG differance.
