Does it really help with traction? If so how? Do most strip cars use one? Thanks-JimT

The same torque reaction that lifts the motor on the left also lifts the rear axle on the right. That's why non-posi cars always spin the right wheel. A rear anti-sway bar helps to minimize the longitudinal "twist" of the axle and helps keep the axle planted. What helps even more is to also disconnect the front bar; all you need to disconnect is the LH end link assembly.

I removed the front bar. I have 90/10 Front shocks, 50/50 back. Rear is 12 bolt/Moser axles,ends/no-hops/BMR adjustable uppers/air bags. Will adding the rear sway bar be worth the added weight? I can get a 7/8" or 1", should I get the 1". Thanks-JimT

For a race car, this is fine. For a street car, disconnecting the front swaybar and using a rear sway bar causes oversteer (sometimes severe) in the corners.

Ed, The front swaybar was gone and my car had the 90/10's on the front when you drove it. It is does not handle that bad. What I am getting at is it worth adding a rear sway bar? A lot of faster(10sec) cars are using one, I am just not sure why. Another thing my car does and I need to correct is it tends to not track straight during burn-outs. I think I can help that with pre-load of the uppers. Anything to be gained by adding the rear sway bar(at the track)?- Thanks-Jim

Jim,
My car felt better at the track after I added the rear bar & adjustable uppers. I can't say that it improved my times because my slips have been so crappy lately. But, FWIW the car feels "tighter" at the track.

Jim- I'm running a 7/8 rear bar on my car right now, with 50/50 shocks,SSM lift bars, Airbags, and ET streets. The bar helped the 60ft times be more consistent and the car launch alot straighter. In street trim it avgs 1.50-1.51 on motor and has been 1.37 on a 150 shot. I will be changing to a 1 1/8 soon and will post the difference if any. My suggestion- put the bar on it-

Ken, Can you shed some light on your experience with how your big rear sway bar performs on launch on a high HP A body? I have one along with adjustable control arms and I'm pleased with how it works plus the car handles like nobody's business

I have reports from many of my customers that it helps the "hook" and the straightness of the leave. My guess is that axle preload(via air bags , different spring rates etc.)and tire pressure bias, left to right, becomes less critical because the stiffer the bar, the more the car launches like a solid mount rear axle car(dragsters, fiat topolino altereds etc.

I was thinking of installing a rear sway bar on my 66 Lemans, (already have it) I have 50/50's SSM bars and airbags, I was curious about the bar getting in the way as far as jacking the car up, putting jackstands under the axle tubes? any problems in this area?

Mine clears the axle tubes easily. A little close to the pumpkin though but I can still get my floor jack in there if I approach it from the side.

I know one thing, it is almost impossible to get to my adjustable uppers with my 3" exhaust in the way. I was thinking of swapping to stock uppers/ SSM bars for that reason. What is a good source for the SSM's? Thanks-JimT

PONT 406--
In my case, that huge sway bar does make it trickier to get a floor jack under the pumpkin and there have been instances when I wish I had a shorter/flatter floor jack but I’m always able to get my Judge up in the air when wrenching on it. Ken Crocie’s HO Racing sway bars are so beefy they do sometimes get in the way. I think it's worth the tradeoff.

Hard to do for my setup, I'm running 16 inch wheels with 255-50-16's, I love the look plus I have a M22 with the 2.20 first so a taller tire would make my torque multiplication even worse in first gear
