70 convertible top install/fit
i have just had my 70 GTO convertible top replaced and the question arose how far sould that strip over the back window come down on each side of the top seams . this is the strip that goes over the last top bow before the rear window . the instructions that came with the top say no more than 3" left and right of the top seams , but this does not look right . we have not in stalled this strip yet . so please help if you can . does anyone have the origional specs?? or an origional top?

The new tops recommend that 3' because of tear problems at the bow which is common, you can go lower which is correct ( about 4-4.5 or more inches) but the manufacturer probably won`t warranty it

original specs are in the Fisher body manual for that. There's a whole section on top replacement. I agree with Forrest on shortening it to 3" -- doesn't tear right away but the tops shrink after awhile and back window tightens up.
