G'day I am iain from Australia and I am "resto-modifying" this 1962 Bonneville Vista HT back to life. I bought this off a mate who scored it as a parts car when he bought his Vista HT in 2012. It's my first build of this scale and it's been pretty overwhelming at times but I'm getting there (slowly). Mine won't be as wild as my mate Brenden's (his is bagged, will have crazy pearl paint etc)

What I started with...

Where I'm at now - jambs and door inners done, dash painted, chassis and floors painted, all new bushings, redone most of the steering, pulled apart/cleaned A/C and heater system (anyone know of a good place for new rubber/foam seals for them?), and SHEDLOADS more work I CBF going through haha. Colour is Porsche 964 RS Mintgruen (Mint Green), roof will be pearl white.

Many thanks to Steve Barcak for sending me the hood, trunk lid, trunk floor and sail panel.

Cheers guys.

It can be a bit of a struggle to get parts and info out here but i am getting there. Looking at engine and trans options right now as i dont want to muck around beefing up the original Hydramatic - i want an honest 450-500hp so sourcing a 400 and th400 (or th700 OD box) seems to be the go, it is just unfortunate that Pontiac engines are non-existant in Australia.

One thing i have been wondering - why are these cars called "Darksiders"?

Marv, welcome to the DarkSide. I can never remember specifically the subtopics (threads) that go into the origins of the word...but if you search within the this (the 62-66) subforum, you will find it.

Good progress on your car - it would be great if you would start a thread specific to YOUR car - it will make it easier to find (THIS thread being an ongoing "spotlight" thread, it'll be hard to find your posts as it continues to grow).

PM me if you need parts or advice for your project that you cannot source elsewhere - I am a '62 collector and have a lot of spares for that car!

Cheers mate - when i have more done or some more time i will throw a thread up on it. I think it would work best as a few long posts. I try and do a minimum of 1hr a day on the car and, as i am an untrained novice working from a home garage with limited tools, this means things take 4 times as long as a pro would take. It also means if i posted up every single job id end up bugging you guys something horrible haha.

I think ill be hitting you guys up for some info/parts for the A/C system in my car. Aussie summers are HOT!

Default This is what happens when I get bored.......

Here are the before and after pics of my wagon. I intended to stay with the satin black, but my wife and buddy had other plans. Hope to have redlines on her shortly. This was shot in my driveway, so the paint job is pretty crappy, but it works for me.

Before shot.

Alright now. You are gonna have to post a LOT more Pics than that to keep us happy. What a great paint scheme! What color gold did you use & can you post a Pic of the front/hood area so we can see the shade better? And, it is a damn sight better than having it sit in somebody's paint shop for 2 years while you don't get to drive it.

The gold is Acme "Gold Metallic" available at your NAPA store. The pin striping was done by a local legend pin striper. He's almost 70 years old and can still free-hand those looooong sidepanels.

Thanks for the compliment!
