Default Gear Vendors Overdrive in '68 'Bird

Will there be problems with tunnel clearance putting a Gear Vendors unit on a TH400?

The car has a 8.5 rearend with 4.11 gears, 467 Butler engine with RAIV E-heads. We believe this is the best way to make the car highway friendly.

Please let me know the model Pontiac it is in and what mods, if any, were needed to the tunnel. Thank you.

Sorry, it's in a 67' Firebird. No modifications were needed

I would put a 3:08 in it and tune around that.. A cam change to something with less duration and more lobe separation will probably be needed but it will run so much better, be faster on the street and the brakes will work... She might even want to ride in it again.. Just think how fast that driveshaft will be spinning with a 4:11s at 120 0r 130 and your sitting right on top of it.. This parts were never designed to turn at those speeds especially at 50 years old, no thanks lol...

Everybody I know that installed one of those things in there car hated it and ended up selling the car... Its amazing what people will go through to get out of installing the right camshaft in there cars to make them go faster..

Dick, the gear vendor fits the first gens fine. It's an excellent way to knock some rpm down on the highway if you already have a nice trans and converter in the car you don't want to discard.

.78 reduction will knock about 600 rpm off your cruise speed. Or in other words instead of 55 mph you can cruise about 70-72 mph at the same rpm with the gear vendor engaged. It'll basically act like it has 3.23's out back.

It's better than cruising with 4.10's for sure. I've been doing that for 35 years, even a 600 rpm drop at cruise is a welcome addition without affecting the dragstrip performance.

I run a gear vendors in my 65. It’s a game changer doing Drag Week. My only gripe is the OD is only 0.78. Wish it were a little more like 0.70 or similar.

Gear vendors units are super strong, but I don't like the truck-like clunkiness shifting in and out of OD personally. OK on a truck, but on a musclecar, kinda rough.
