Original Owner? Not likely, but

It does look like the TRI-POWER EXPERT mixed a 65 and a 66 TRI-POWER Linkage together.
Notice the 66 hump bracket connected to the cable vs the normal 65 long stud for the cable (Picture attached).

I am not sure why someone buying a $42k car wouldn't spend the money for Phs, but then again $42000 is like $420 to some folks.

'YN' would be a 326 engine for a Lemans wouldn't it? And the owner himself gives it away when he answers the question with '7.35 x 14 WW tires'. We know all GTO's got 7.75 tires in 65. What a tool!

It needs my user name to be real, no 2 in box 38.

Tom Vaught,

Do you mean the stud for the throttle cable on the center carb? It does look like a shorter stud than is correct for '65, but can't tell for sure. When using that "J" linkage on a '64, we used the short stud pictured and a long stud for '65.

Now that we have the 9777060 '64-only linkage kit, the match-up is better with the throttle cable brackets for both '64 and '65 Tripowers.

I think maybe Tom is referring to this "hump" bracket which is 66 and it's on "that 65".

Smoked me on that one. Thanks for the picture.

Yes, I was referring to the addition of that bracket on a "ALL CORRECT" supposedly 65 Tri-Power original car.

Default Why is the guy still advertising the car as a GTO?

I asked several questions around the drivetrain and never got any responses. Now I know why.

RAII 4-speed…Thanks for posting the billing history card information. The car is not that far away and I was thinking about taking a road trip.

I have been given leads on 6 cars this year for the registry and all have been converted 4bbls. This was the first one that wasn’t even a GTO! If PHS goes out of business, it will be a big problem for all the legit factory tripower/4spd convertibles.

That is why I think cars with protect-o-plates are worth so much more. Now they might be reproducing those as well and make it match a non correct car (I hope not). Thank goodness for PHS.

Looks like they have listed all the questions now and are finally convinced that they've been duped. They just haven't adjusted the price yet!

If this car was a true GTO, the seller states in the answers to the customer's questions that the block has a EUN of 178,000 range. I have found from original protect-o-plate cars that these numbers were in numeric order and reset each model year. So a Sept 64 389 would be in the 50,000 range and a Jan 65 389 would be in the 190,000 range. With this car having a 06E cowl tag, I can say that the engine never came in that car.

Hmm. he switched from "expert on the car" to "just took it in trade - don't know anything about it" really quick.
