well, I am and I don´t like em! They have that raspy sound even with my crossover, not that deep packed muffled sound I´m looking for. Also at 1800-2000 rpm the resonating pounds out my eardrums! It´s horrible, I try to do anything to get out of those rpms! Since everyone raves about Dynomax I have ordered the welded ultraflows, let´s hope they will at least get rid of the resonating...... Any likewise experiences???

Dutch, I'm not so sure those UltraFlo's are going to give you any less of a headache but I certainly am anxious for you to prove me wrong.

Just installed the Ultra Flows. Nice deep tone at Idle and they have a good bark if you snap the throttle. Hard to explain a sound on line. To test them, Just slide on mufflers and tail pipes, NO clamps or welds and crank her up. Then you can decide.

That is true Never Enough, I just listened to the Pypes site and could´nt really tell the diffence in in loudness, but the ultraflows definetly had the best sound! I just hope they don´t have that annoying resonance the Edelbrocks have. We will see...

I have the UltraFlow's on my Grand Am. They are not raspy at all and don't resonated either. They sound nice and deep, if not a little quiet, but they should gain some volume after a few more miles.

I went through 3 combinations on my 68 GP: 3 chamber Flows and small and large Magneflows with each muffler producing the same annoying resonance @ 40mph in top gear. I finally added tubular type resonators in the tailpipes and solved the problem without signifigantly reducing flow. My X pipe system is 2.5" thruout. Since I have the same system without resonators on my GTO,it must be the extra length that is causing the problem. I think the resonators would work regardless of muffler choice.

I have some resonance with my Dynomax Super Turbos around 45 mph but it is not too bad.

I installed the Welded Ultraflows and it sounds MUCH better!! The raspy sound is replaced with a DEEEEEEP idle rumble. I feel it breathes a little better too. I think it won´t be quieter at high rpm´s,but it is a tad quieter than the Edelbrocks..not at wide open throttle blisps!Wow, mean as hell! but I could not take it for a spin since the tranny is still out. I hope the resonance will be gone but we´ll see...for now I´m pleased.

i have the 3 chamber Delta 50 Flows with 2 1/2 Mandrel setup no x pipe - 400 67 GTO Convertible...
.. I have what I think is a good fairly deep sound.. I'd like it "rounder"..or a tad mellower.. but at 1500 rpm I had a noticable resonance.. I blame it on my convertible to some degree..After about 50 miles they have mellowed noticably...SO give it some time.. I was surprised that they softened up a lot..
My old mufflers (I have no idea what they were...) had no resonance, so I was kinda bummed...

Ive noticed with the Flowmasters on my car tend to quiet down a bit with mileage. I think they build up a layer of soot on the inside of them after time and that tends to dampen some of the sound. I know that when I had my last 2dr it was loud as hell for the first few months but it mellowed out a bit after a while. I remember being pissed cause it wasn't as loud.

Joe:

I've got some Flowmaster 30's on my car, along with a 3 & 1/2" system. It's loud.

My bet is your system was just as loud but you're hearing was on its way out.

I welded an extension pipe to each side of the rear exhaust and made sure they extended passed the bumper of my 64 by two inches. This got rid of most of the awful resonating on my American Thunder system. Very pleased now.

Just an update, the trans is in again, and got to drive round town with the new mufflers. There is still a little resonance driving at 2K but it´s far less than the Edelbrock mufflers, also the sound is a huge improvement. It indeed makes a perculiar noise when letting off the gas after WOT,but I love it! It´s way quieter at idle which is better for the neighborhood. Overall I´m pleased.

I've got the same annoying resonance with FLowmaster 50 3-chambers..(and the same concern about Neighbors).

I'm trying to decide between Dynamax UltraFlow welded or perhaps their "super-turbo"...

I'm worried about spending another $$$$ and having it still be too loud..

Any experience with the super-turbo's? They appear to be quiter than the ultra-flows?

I'm not that worried about flow restrictions, the car is 400/350 HP (9.5 compression & nice cam) w/ RAM Air manifolds.

Thanks,
Fred

I have both the Ultraflow's and the Super Turbo's on two different cars. The Super Turbo's resonate quite a bit at 2500rpm, a bit too loud inside the car, but quiet outside the car. The Ultraflow's are a bit louder, BUT with a different kind of sound that is less obtrusive, less droning. I like the Ultraflow's much better.
