Default Howard's Cams sold by Competition Products

Anyone had any experience or feedback with these cams? Their price is pretty good ... don't know about the quality.

Howards has been making camshafts for about 60 years. In the 50s, 60s, 70s they were like Crane or Comp in popularity. They also do forged aluminum rods.
I dont know much about them now.

I posted nearly the same question several months ago and never got a response as I was interested in their RAIV clone. Doug Herbert offers the same spec cam under their name. Don't know if they perform as well as the original or not.

As others say, "Howard's" has been around FOREVER... They're mostly Chevy-oriented (surprise, surprise...). That doesn't mean their cams don't "work". They get the valves open and closed at the proper times. But, like Crane, Herbert, Summit, Edelbrock, etc., most of their grinds are "generigrinds", and not "leading edge".

For the best cams today, Comp, Crower, and Bullit (UltraDyne) are the way to get the performance you really want.

If you really want the 041 cam, "clone" or not, go for the Melling SPC-8. It's not a "clone", as Melling owns the masters for GM muscle car cams. It will also be the best price.

Melling is also easy to get as the local O'Reilly parts store lists them and can order them in a couple of days. I priced one recently and it was $118. Going to order one even if I don't use it in the new build for the GTO, and a set of Speed Pro 951R lifters. Also years ago (I remember this from a friend restoring a 69 Chevelle SS) that Edelbrock used Melling cams and shipped them in an Edelbrock box. Just some food for thought.
