Cliff,

Any advantage or disadvantage to using the multi-pattern version of the P4B over the Q-Jet only???

Cliff, Nice Plenum. I hope to unshroud my P4B Plenum to that. Mine has the Sec-Notch by Edelbrok.

Chuckie is correct...

There is a Plain P4Bdual bolt pattern, square flange for Holley and AFB's and there is the P4B-QJ that is a Q-Jet only pattern.

Here is what a regular P4B looks like with a Q-Jet gasket on it...Robert

Correct, they are not wide enough anywhere, front or rear, and adapter/spacer is required.

From what I can see, the square flange version is fairly restrictive above the plenum areas, as I have both of them in the shop. The Q-jet version is over an inch wider and give the air a better shot at the runners.

We'll know more once the tracks open up here and we can do some testing?.....Cliff

Mine is identical to Post #64 2nd picture, with water log hacked off.

Notice the complete inability to seal the area forward of the Primaries. I gotta JB-Weld that pothole

I found this info.......
http://members.tripod.com/futom/id125.htm
All the pictures of the P4B show that the thermostat housing bolts up at a slight angle. At least on my car that'd make installing the P4B an adventure in fabrication.

Wow! I forgot I had posted that. I made that page some time in 2000 or 2002 I think. Not sure if I can even get back in to edit it? Sure has taken a life of its own. Surprised they haven't deleted that stuff.

That certainly is not a square bore unit. I can plainly see the casting shaped for a qjet secondaries. So is there three verisions of these P4B's? A square only, a qjet only, and a combo?

If so, the pic. is a combo unit like a Performer and RPM?

I watched eBay for awhile to see what was up. It's been a long time so my memory of it is iffy but...

There are at least 4 if you want to break it out like that-

1- Square bore only- small runner
2- Square bore only- LARGE runner
3- Spreadbore only - LARGE Runner (bolt hole spacing with 4 bolts only not 8. The square bore bolt pattern can be drilled in if you want, the meat is there, they just didn't do it)
4- Spreadbore/Squarebore - LARGE runner

You will also see the bosses change around for accessories and the exhaust crossover style change between bolt on coil and that weird bulge on the side of the plenum with no pad at all.

You can see my actual Qjet intake in the pics above because of the distinct notches in the primary portion of the carb pad where the previous owner started to mod it.

It can be done with an open Q-jet to holley adapter.
Was one of my 1st fab's back in the early 80's. What a butcher job.
Didnt work as well as my 68 ....140 intake.
I think not only do to the smaller plenum, but also the wider curves of the runners, and lower overall hieght.
Could of been the combo.
Maybe i'll dig it out and take a pic's to give you guys a laugh.
