A good way to pad the power spike is with a stereo cap, it works. But you should still run a PWM controller. That spike not only can damage the battery, it will also take out alt regulators. Headlights are not as much of a spike as fans are, and usually not anything to be concerned about. Unless of course you are running HiD, or maybe high output Halogens. If you have twin fans and your alt goes bad, you're not going to make it very far with or without the fans. So a jumper wire is pointless, the batt will drain within a few mins. Especially at night. Basically what will happen is you're driving, and then notice lights are getting dim, you pull over, and that's it. You won't even be able to start it without a jump. And even then, once you pull the jumper cables, it will most likely just die, especially with an electronic dizzy. If you're running a AMG type battery, when the alt goes bad, either a full charge or an 'off' type failure, it damages a cell. You generally only have 6. And there's no fixing it once a cell is damaged. Without one or two cells, it just won't charge all the way, or it will show an error on the charger (hopefully you are using a smart charger with an AMG or dry cell batt). But if it's 3 cells, you turn the engine off, it most likely not have enough power to start. And running a batt with a bad cell or two can also take out alt regulators. EDIT: Basically, once you see the light on the dash go on, you're done. You use that time to get to a safe pull off area, and call a truck. .

Regarding getting my dash battery light to work with a one-wire alternator and the Mad Electrical set up, I relocated the red wire ring terminal from the alternator output post to the common post (primary junction block), but the engine still had run on when I turned off the key.

You probably need to install a diode. Your alternator wiring instructions from MAD should've had that. I don't remember, but can find the info if you don't find it.

Yes, Mad included instructions, but they applied to 3 wire alternators. I will double check. I have a diode. I am unsure where to install it with the minnie wire harness.

Quick Silver,
Please see the attached image. Do you think I can run a wire from the GM style 12SI terminal #1 shown in the image to the gen/alt brown wire? With a diode or no diode? Same gauge as the brown wire?

I have no run on, unless I try to hook up the PowerMaster 150 harness, which was supposed to make the charge indicator light function per the image below. So, I am good for driving the car... I just want to see if I could get the dash light working.

Just adding the diode should fix you right up.
Terminal #1 is hot when the alternator is turning/charging. This had no affect on factory ignition systems. Diode stops the feed back that goes through the charge bulb and back to the ignition switch. It's not much volts/amps but it is enough to trip the on/off relay built inside the MSD box. Clay |

So, running a single wire from that 1 terminal, with an inline diode, to the brown wire on the 4 terminal external regulator harness will do the trick? The diode installed so no current flows to that brown wire?

Yes that is it. The diode just stops current from going back through the bulb.
Key off cuts battery power off. Feed back through the bulb wire keeps IGN-1 hot as long as the alternator is turning/charging. Once the engine stops nothings wrong. No shorts, no battery draw, not anything. "pretty much" just something that happens when you use a MSD box. Terminal one in the alternator goes to ground when the alternator isn't charging. That's what turns the bulb on when the alternator isn't charging. So the one way diode lets the bulb still work like factory. Just stops the back feed that's enough to trip the MSD's internal relay.
