74 GTO letter code on block?
On the 74 GTO, what would be the letter code stamped on the front of the block for a manual transmission? Thanks Steve

Does the 6 digit number stamped on the front of the block match the last 6 digits on the VIN? Thanks Steve

no, that's an engine unit number;
the partial vin is stamped vertically down beside the timing housing, opposite if the fuel pump.

Here is my question. The last 6 digits of the VIN (111706), the number stamped on the block is 272916 WP. Are they suppose to match to be the original motor? Thanks Steve

If that number is above the WP, it will not be for the VIN.
It is called the engine unit number or motor unit number or some other things. The VIN of the car is down lower on the block same side as the WP. It will be next to the timing cover, if still in the car may be hard to see because of crud and the radiator hose hiding it. (as was said earlier) It will look something like 24L111706 or 24W111706 (if it's the original) I collect that info on the engine unit number. What is the block date code? (back of block by the distributor)

Thanks!
That serial number is from the engine? If so, it is the original engine.
